Normally when you have your interview they get you to sign contract and let you select shift pattern from those available.

Are we allowed to listen to MP3 when sorting mail and sit in our car at our break?

Would I just be able to wear trainers or do I need steel toe cap boots?

I'm not certain, but I doubt it. It would almost certainly compromise Heath and Safety regulations.

Yep, you can.

I wore trainers last year and it was fine, though be warned that standing for eight hours isn't kind on the feet so something with a bit more support is probably advisable. If you need any specialist equipment - including specific footwear, IIRC - it's supplied.

We were allowed to listen to MP3 players/radio last year, with one earphone in. Where are you working?

Heyy, Starting at Doxford tomorrow,

Just wondering if anyone knows what its like?

(probably been answered already)

are we allowed to wear headphones?

is it 8-12 hours standing? (I have a bad back, wasn't told we'd be standing for extra long periods of time)

I know its the training for the next 3 days, but are we being baby sat doing real work? or just figuring out the system?

cheers

No to headphones
Yes to the standing , it says in the job description that you must be able to stand for long periods of time !
The only training I had was for about an hour at the induction showing me what to do , after that it was more or less just get on with it and figure it out yourself.

Dependent on what you are doing headphones maybe allowed.

You maybe standing for your whole shift, sitting for your whole shift or a mixture during your shift. More than likely more of your work will mean standing.

Does anyone know if the Nightshift has started at Stockport MDEC yet?

I suspect I am being fobbed off because I was on the 12th week AWR and due a pay rise if I worked again within a 6 week period.

Gotta love regulations which are supposed to help workers ....instead of getting paid a bit less I get paid nothing!

Spoke to Angard but they're as sketchy as ever and even less helpful.

I am a RM casual but have been offered a full time position from January on-wards for Maidstone MC.

Right now I am just a RM Xmas Casual, however, there was little work today, and 3-4 hours into my contracted 7 hour shift there wasn't much to do. The night shift manager told us all to go home and we would only be paid for the hours we worked. I refused and he found another job for me to-do (quality control checks), all the other casuals went home.

Is he allowed to do this to RM xmas casuals (send them home)? The 7 hours is what is stated we should work, but, well...
