I thought the point is there can't be a further extension unless another ballot is carried out?

Would it be optimistic to believe that the overnight delay is either because they are taking the time to craft a press release outlining the deal of the century they have agreed, or they are deciding what form the industrial action is to take?

Believe you are correct Bernard, there is a deal and they want to be sure to have RM on board at the WTLs tomorrow with the details so RM Managers take the flack and not them. This isn't an extension, that ran 'til Wednesday, but if they were to call a strike then why wait we would have to inform RM by then anyway. I believe it is to allow RM to brief their managers on the agreement but really who knows?

I don't think there is a deal they will have
To set a strike day as the ballot is out of time
for it to be extended.this is what will happen

The extension last week means the ballot is live until Wednesday December 4th. But, as 7 days notice must be given, some form of action must be announced by 5pm THIS Wednesday, if my understanding is correct. There can be no further extension after 5pm. A new ballot would be required

The fact of the matter is it was a joint statement so any extension will keep the ballot alive till the 4th of December there can be no extensions beyond that date after that we would need a re-ballot so we will see in the coming two days what will happen a deal or a strike date!

I think that there is no deal due to the problems with deliveries and the PEC have decided to announce that we will be on strike next week. They have hopefully sent RM a final offer stating just what they must accept for the Strike not to be announced. They have obviously been reading the RM offer all day and drafting a reply clearly stating just what is acceptable and what is not. RM know that if industrial action is announced the large customers will switch to alternatives etc. so The PEC are giving them one last chance.

The gun is cocked, let's see if the trigger is pulled or RM put the safety catch back on..........

Even if we were going to enact the ballot which trust me isn't going to happen it's unlikely it would stand long enough to hit the gate.
Royal Mail would simply release the details of the new "deal" and run to the courts citing the huge material difference between the position at which the members decided on strike action and the position now.
Given the time that has elapsed the courts would probably order a fresh ballot anyway,eight weeks having elapsed or not.

Royal Mail have created a monster they cannot put back in a box! The bonus culture of management has been let loose yet those at the top of Royal Mail cannot see it's destructive environment on the workforce whilst in their ivory towers! I think most on here realised once the extensions started we were pretty well stuffed. People must have doubted the strength of the commitment to man the gates when the ballot result was first announced let alone now. I foresee a gratis payment before Christmas whilst the final wording is thrashed out with a ballot to accept swiftly put together - details of the agreement to follow, sounds familiar to me. I just hope to Christ they don't use the word "Interim", if they do I will probably fill my man nappy.

the executive have met today and a comprehensive letter to branches will be out in the morning apparently a 3 page document. The executive will meet again next monday and tuesday where a deal will be discussed so it seems progress has been made

How can that be? The extension is up on Wednesday so that would mean there is no IA to be called - now that'd be a complete surprise
