Teenager jailed for six years after one punch death of Glen Kitchens

A teenager has been jailed for six years after a street assault which killed a former postman.

Jadon Jackson, 16, of Victoria Road, Worksop, punched Glen Kitchens which knocked him unconscious. As he fell backwards his head hit a stone pillar and the impact killed him.

It happened outside a shop in Bridge Street after Mr Kitchens had been out socialising with friends on April 6.

He was taken to Bassetlaw District Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A Home Office post-mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was head trauma.

Jackson denied unlawfully killing Mr Kitchens throughout his trial but was convicted by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, October 31.

Detective Inspector Rob McKinnell, who led the investigation, said: “People should consider their actions before they get into any kind of altercation. The consequences can be devastating and it only takes one punch – as we have seen with the death of Mr Kitchens.

“I hope today’s sentence serves as a sharp reminder of how important it is to think before you act.”

Following the sentence, Mr Kitchens’ family paid tribute to him.

“Glen was a kind, down-to-earth person who was always up for a laugh and a joke. He was a very caring individual, always willing to help out anyone he could.

“He had a passion for music, something he always loved from being young, and he tried his hand a DJ-ing. He would often put together CDs for his family, which was something he liked doing for them even if the music wasn’t to his taste.

“It goes without saying that we will miss Glen for the rest of our days but life does go on and ours have to, as painful as that is right now. Glen wouldn’t have wanted it any other way and as we move through our lives we will remember Glen with love and remember the happy memories we made together and feel lucky for having had such a wonderful son, brother, uncle and grandson in our lives."

Six years for killing this poor fella, what a disgrace, the law needs to be looked at, no wonder people are not scared of the consequences, feel sorry for his friends and family. R.I.P

The derisory sentence will only encourage more to take the law into their own hands. If it was my relative I would,be waiting for him to give him a taste of his own "one punch"

It's not really six,they get 50% remission so if he has spent any time on remand he will be out in less than 3

In California, the maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter would be 11 years. But they did away with parole years ago and the prosecutor could always up this to murder, which has far longer sentences (2nd degree would 15 years minimum.)
