I regard myself as quite a quick postman, I start at 6.30 and usually am one of the first back.
I'm only 25 and work in an office with the majority aging from 40-78. I understand I will be a lot quicker walking (although it's at a quicker pace) than a lot of the guys and girls in the office.
Why should I slow down? Yes there could be frustration at the time I finish but with the way the company solely runs on seniority us young noobys need a perk somewhere.

What happens though is you run around killing jobs, then when you are the 40-60 year old you'll be struggling because your body has slow downed but the deliverys have got bigger.

Re the company running on seniority , lots of companies reward seniority with higher rates of pay, royal mail don't the perks are a weeks extra holiday and earlier picks at jobs.

I hope there are a new set of agreed performance standards. Too many people are carrying others on IPS, packet sorting etc and everyone should be doing roughly the same amount of work. If the mail was shared out evenly to sort it would be embarrassing for some.

On a Flyer you may be on IPS. There are different functions to our roles and some are quick on IPS, some are quick on throwing in, some are quick at bagging up, some are quick on delivery. Are you saying that you want each function to have a mandated performance standard, because believe you me mate, you are going to fall foul on one or maybe two or three of these functions.

I agree. These spiteful little 'work-to-rulers' do themselves NO favours. I go in half-hour early, as I'm part time and still the full-timer/driver will be waiting for me to bundle up and get on out. I never doorstep/run/jog/leave gates open. I simply walk briskly. I've twice worked to my time in months. Now before the Red Robbos kick-off at me, I took this job as it fitted in with my personal life. I could, working the hours, finish in time to pick my kids up from school. The earlier I get out, the earlier I go home. I'd say half the blokes in the office think the same way. I want my break at home after work, not sitting in the canteen drinking overpriced crappy coffee for 20 minutes.
If I'm put on with a really slow prat (there are 4 or 5 in the office) I take my car out, do my loops (not from the car before you scream!) and go straight home, dropping my PDA and returns off with the van driver. The slow ones actually are aware many posties either refuse to work with them as a pair, or insist they take their own van out. To be fair, they tell the newbs to take their car out if they want. We have had one person reported delivering after 5PM. and on occasions between 7 and 8 PM. Who wants to be paired with a dosser like that?

Last week we had a meeting where the manager urged us to do the job properly to cut mistakes down and stop complaints. This week, a runner/corner cutter has been on a duty known to take to its time but he has been finishing 2 hours early. Management response has been to add an estate to the duty. It is an absolute disgrace from both the workers like this and the management that on one hand say do the job right and on the other take advantage of putting a duty under pressure just because a duty wrecker is on it.

In my office they don't have to as most of them do come in early work their breaks and so on. But they also do work over their time and don't claim. leaving the people who do the job right to be the bad guys

This is so,so similar to my office....the thing is the idiots just cannot see they are doing wrong because it's the norm.

It's a cancer of the job that sadly will never be eradicated,just like LWT trolllies will never be fully enforced & people coming back to the D/O early won't be given more work to fill their time.

who checks u r not using LWT i worked with idiot today who ran/jogged round he put 2 yes 2 bags on his back for 3 of the loops! THE GUY IS AN IDIOT and i told him not too help me when finishing his loops, this annoyed him as he was doing xtra del when finishing in the end he insisted on helping me on last loop. i used to be quick but with the way the job is i now just take time dom loves runners the job is becoming a joke we shd work on our own with a couple of xtra drivers doing the xtra parcels i do not think people are going to stay more than 10 yrs in the job anymore, guys at our office have got problems with knees and joints dom even admitted u can not do this all your working life!

No-one should be running/rushing on delivery, massive H&S issue that needs to dealt with.
If your trip over and end up breaking something then go off sick, dont expect to claim any compensation pay out because you werent doing the job properly as instructed. What would happen if you werent wearing a seatbelt and get into a serious accident just to save a few seconds? Dont worry about losing your job... you could be losing your life. Its so sad that some idiots risk their lives day in day out just to get home an hour early and w**k off to jeremy kyle.
