Let's not resort to stupid in-fighting!

If you truly believe working in an MC is such a delight, why have you not put in for a transfer ?

Would the fact that the MC's are under constant threat of closure be a factor? And indeed, how many have actually been closed ? A lot of MC staff have had to re-locate to another MC, usually a long distance from their old (closed) one. Yes, they get travel money. But when that ceases to be paid, they are then considerably worse-off, not just in terms of extra money on fuel / public transport costs, but poorer in terms of less time with family due to having a much longer journey to and from work than they previously had :hmmmm

Nowhere is my post did I suggest sellIng out dly postman. So sad this has ended up as a slanging match between Mc people and deliveries. Frankly keep this up and you deserve what you get. I want a united union, others plainly don't.
In fact I said "Apart from deliveries, where I think as a union we have not done as well protecting these members, the union has kept our terms and conditions way above those of the general population." Sounds like I support delivery men in that quote.

What do you mean by "we get what we deserve"? do you mean we deserve all the bullying and harassment, will we deserve unlimited d2d's.Or should we suffer in silence in the hope that we will get a good deal just like BT2010.

and he is right, if we in deliveries don't stop backbiting those in other functions because we think they got a better deal than we did (A juvenile and incorrect assumption in my opinion) than any pretense of solidarity will be gone, and the divide and conquer approach from management will have finished with functions and start coming for individual units a lot more than they have in the last 4 years. And in my honest opinion we will only have ourselves to blame.

I read a little of the first post, but got decidedly bored harking back to the "good old days" of the 70s but perked up when I read the bit about Mitcham and Croydon because I went out with a young woman from Mitcham Junction in the late 60s whilst I was in the Army - now they were the good old days. I often reminisce about them...........no of course I don't it was nigh on 50 years ago ffs :chuckle

It is not exactly grown up to say that delivery staff should get what they deserve.

it is the blue avatar brigade that start the whole slanging match with their sycophancy and their snide remarks towards delivery...

Most year round, they rarely have much to say on the Union forum and even less on their own forums. The few that come on do not add much to the debate - so there is little apology for what they get.

Are we in in together? Not from my point of view. Do we need them to go on a strike? What are the numbers? Can we influence the closures of Mail Centres? Just look at the Post Office - what are we doing to help them - sod all, and in fact we even promised them a matching strike and march - but that did not happen.

This might probably be the very last collective bargain then it should be every man and unit for themselves. The Union will also struggle to maintain the pretence of unity from now on that is if their influence does not wane considerably from member apathy and legislations.

If delivery staff are not ready to stand up for themselves then they have themselves to blame not other units or sections.

How else can you interpret this?,if he meant anything else other than a dig at deliveries he should have worded it better, why not just state he wants a united union. Also I go to mail centre's on a fairly regular basis for courses and I see none of the frantic activity I see back at my delivery office.

When was the last time you actually know for a fact dely go home 2 hours early?

It's true you might finish early on a tues provided there's no lapsing to be done, but that's one day out of 5 , sat is now a normal working day for delivery staff, do you even work sat?

Also if we don't get much mail on tues then i guess you don't get as much on monday evening to process?

This go home 2 hours early insult/excuse/argument never applied to everyone on delivery in the first place and applies to very few now.
Even in the days of job&finish which only officially existed between 2003 and 2007 other than Saturdays and Tuesdays delivery members made little time that wasn't already their own through skipping meal relief and starting early.

The few people that are still lucky enough to finish 2 hours before their time will surely vote for any Agreement along with the sycophantic lot...

The funny thing about the so-called easy Tuesday is that people come just so much earlier on Tuesday. The start time for FT staff on Tuesday at my place is 7.30am and for Monday 7.00am and Wed-Friday is 6.40am.

What really happens is that most FT start arrive just after 6 or maybe 6.30am... Most are just used to an early start!

* If most offices choose to do the WTLL (and this could be expanded to just merely listening to the DOM or watching a video) then they will be finishing just about the right time.

** How many in MC will choose to stay on the job instead of WTLL?

We should stick together..........why? There's a distinct difference between the two disciplines so much so perhaps there should be separate negotiations. We all get stuffed at Christmas and all work harder, even the mail centres and deliveries know only too well from the trays of missorts we get addressed for all over the country...................mind that's probably the fault of the casuals brought in to do the work..............not something you see in deliveries. :cuppa

I see people from different delivery offices in area finishing 1-2 hours (or more  ) every day even after a DM revision.
Yes they start early & dont take breaks but its their god given right to finish early & they do.
The point I was making is i am bored & always have been of this MC workers have it easy & poor old delivery workers are all getting shafted.
And I work in deliveries.

Fair enough and i agree we should all stick together but at the end of the day the dely staff have the majority vote, i also appreciate that mail center staff have already been hit by job cuts after the 2010 deal.

Beats me how people are able to start early , our office is a spdo and we don't get our mail out to us until 7.30 so even if i went in at 7 it would make no difference.
