Postal talks end without agreement

The TUC has hosted talks between CWU and Royal Mail over the last week. Those talks were specifically aimed at reaching a settlement with a view to averting the two 48hour strikes commencing Thursday 4th and Monday 8th October.

Clearly that process has now come to an end without an agreement. Real progress has been made in many areas, but there is agreement in none. The offer includes a pay increase of 6.9% over two years but this is subject to linking unacceptable strings including a reduction in pensions benefits. Royal Mailâ€™s proposals also include flexibility proposals that mean, among other things, that postal workers will not know what job they are doing from one day to the next.

The CWUâ€™s Postal Executive will now meet to consider the position reached through talks. Royal Mail continue to implement change without agreement. The union has already announced more strikes and these will continue. In the strikes over the last three days support among CWUâ€™s 130,000 members has been overwhelming.

Billy Hayes, General Secretary, said â€œRoyal Mailâ€™s claims regarding the numbers of people at work are a poor attempt to detract from the truth that postal workers are rejecting their proposals in overwhelming numbers. They should stop using their efforts to spin and start putting them into reaching an agreement.â€

By now it's clear RM will not cave in. Keep the rolling action going - we're in this for the long haul until those two cnuts are removed

Royal Mail continue to implement change without agreement.

So, what's the f***ing law in this? If the CWU are mentioning it, is there scope for taking this further? It's clearly wrong in their eyes, so can't they issue a statement regarding this?

i think the two half wits are already under investigation because thats why royal mails results that were due out a few months ago are in the hands of the regulator, there is obviously serious discrepencies in it

I seriously think this is a deliberate stance - each time they - say they will not talk - they then talk - then when the whispers of an agreement go out - they walk away - I can see right through them.

They hit out then withdraw - then hit out then withdraw - hoping we will give in panic as this looks like our union is weak. Billy Hayes and Dave Ward need to walk away from the table now - just to see how they like it.

I'd love it BH/DW walked away. But, they keep making themselves available for talks, unlike RM....this is where you wonder who actually has the upper hand.

Executive action is apparently something the union can't touch, so how's about the union researching something (within in the realms of law, and trying to call RM 's bluff)?

There must be something out there that the CWU can play on,and really fuckup AL/AC.. :cfo :lfo

Ah stuff em ,I don't feel like talking anymore.
Lets keep the four day week roller going, in two weeks the system will choke,you'll do your duty in 90 mins job finish,days money . Organize a jobshare ,get a second job whatever all you got to make up is Â£60, 6hrs at RM 34 hrs to earn Â£60
