Royal Mail has received a warning from the postal regulator Ofcom for missing delivery targets, after four in ten postcodes were found not to be receiving first class letters on time. The Telegraph maps how postcode areas are performing
Royal Mail is facing fines after failing to deliver first class letters on time to four in ten postcodes.
The regulator has told newly privatised company it must improve services after missing key performance targets for the year to March 2013, or it could face a financial penalty.
One of the key targets is 91.5 per cent next day delivery for first class post in almost all of the UK's geographic postcode areas, not just those which are densely populated.
Out of a total of 121 postcodes - three in northern Scotland and the Shetlands are excluded - 45 missed the target, meaning Royal Mail only achieved the target in 62 per cent of the required postcode areas.
Ofcom said Royal Mail has also missed a national requirement to deliver 93 per cent of all first class letters on the day after collection, reaching 91.7 per cent.
Click on the interactive map at the link to find out how your area is performing, and whether it is meeting the 91.5 per cent delivery target for first class post.

Leaving aside the distant islands, Scotland does very well (
) while the Somerset area (which has been in the news a lot for its ongoing industrial relations problems), does not.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
