Unless significant progress has been made in the last 7 days then we should call a strike. Let's see how focused RM's minds become on sorting a deal when strike action is looming just before Christmas instead of extension after extension.

If the argument against striking is that it may risk the progress already made and we may end up with a worse outcome then obviously the sensible thing to do would be to tie off the other issues and put that to the membership separately while continuing the talks on delivery.

If a union starts to talk about strike action in negative terms then it's no longer your weapon,it's their weapon.

At this stage even if we were to call a strike the company would go to court.
That would be a fifty fifty on whether the unions balloting process had been perfect.

Once this happens all talks should be cancelled as any goodwill between the sides would be lost.

There can't be another extension , royal mail had to have a answer one way or the other so they can let amazon etc know there is or isn't a chance of strike action.

I disagree! Remember that Amazon was making noises about going elsewhere about 2 years ago... they cam back because we are still the largest network, most accessible (esp with posties now doing packets and redelivery and collection points) and the most reliable.

Amazon will rather have 7 more days than having to worry about finding alternatives which are not frankly there in numbers or reliability.

It is too late for any of the parties or major customers to walk away... Xmas has practically started!

I said a while back - why not just postpone the whole thing till after Xmas? Even the negotiators will be now so tired and ratty - trying to draft any serious binding Agreements within such a (now) tight deadline is asking a lot.

All we need is too know where we stand on everything and from that, if there are any issues, then they are explained to the members in full. It is exceptionally frustrating to have to tell the floor that you do not know any more than you did last week. The average postie does not want to know about IWT, resourcing and the like and they should not have to. I think it is a bad call by the leaders to not have at least sent out a brief to all the members at their home addresses. The belief in the leadership is diminishing by the day when we are being treated like mushrooms. We all know the pressure on good local reps at the best of times and even they are being treated the same. Yes, we will get a vote on whatever comes are way but after the problems with the BT2010 there is definitely a feeling of once bitten, twice shy and the sheer lack of information is not helping the situation at all.

Deliveries !! But the whole process is time consuming because of the legal guarantees and lawyers involved.

It would have been smarter to start the whole process earlier.

What like 2 years ago when the problems in deliveries were only too obvious and ignored. The current status has been going on for so long it's the norm as far as RM are concerned and aren't going to go backwards whatever the CWU threaten at this stage of the game.
