The results of the strike ballot were released in mid October.
The union then gave Royal Mail almost 3 weeks to reach an agreement or face strike action on the 4th November. There was no agreement but the strikes were called off on the promise of reaching agreement by the 13th or we would reinstate a 24hr strike. There was no agreement by the 13th but no strike was called and we were given the promise again that if no agreement was reached by the 20th strike action would be reinstated.
This is all fact with no spin involved and it really doesn't make for good reading.

There is no range of options open to the PEC if the union still wants to be taken seriously by the membership.Either we have an agreement or we don't.If we don't then everything has to be thrown into the middle or we fold and walk away, there is no room for cowardly half measures that will just make us look even weaker.

The difficulties in these talks are that Royal Mail want to go a lot further then they do currently with more flexibility , continuous improvement and more efficiency.

IS ROYAL MAIL for real.....

working now beyond our time, working flat out every day, and they want more efficiency....

there no f..king chance....
management need to do a delivery for a week... they know how god damn slave driving it is...

Fish you seem to think the prize is a strike rather than an agreement. Do you really believe that a strike will mean that Royal Mail raise the white flag and concede to all our demands ? your sensible to know it dont work like that. Even following a strike there will be negotiations that take time cause it is a complex set of talks the first legally binding agreement in the UK.

It was the right move to give Royal Mail some time to come to the negotiating table , it was the right move to suspend the action once the joint statement and it was probably the right move to give a further 7 days to see whether we would get the agreement due to the progress we have made on the other issues.

Now the call which has to be made not on my opinion or yours or others on here but the 115 000 delivery postman who fall into all types of people on here from the most militant to the weakest.

I know what I would vote for and I think now is the time for action and a pause on the talks. But there is still a few hours to go and still could be a rabbit pulled from an hat.

How do you think deliveries could be sorted? Royal Mail know that too many postmen/women still give the business goodwill. Why should Royal Mail properly address the issues of delivery when they know they would be shooting themselves in the foot.
The only way deliveries can be sorted is by ourselves and that will never happen as history has proved.

What worries me is what dingo says - that royal mail see there is more room for savings to be made in delivery :nervous

I know RM will be reluctant to concede a winning position...

However, as suggested we have the power to make things a little better if we work more collectively and just do the job properly with support from the Union to protect the weakest...

Why go into a hasty agreement that we all know that it will not be adhered to by all parties. I do not see how making it legally binding is going to help with delivery issues. The issues of contracts and entitlements and so on can be legally binding for those that are currently employed for 3 or 5 years but that will not mean that other underhand tactics will not creep in and who knows how powerful the competition might be - that is also a factor.

Why not just go for the Strikes from after Xmas until the issues are properly sorted (no half-measures!). Rolling strikes will soon cripple RM because Amazon, Ebay and other big customers will still be sending their stuff and expecting them to be delivered - all year round!

We should not be so hung up about Xmas time; it can be counter-productive IMO.

I am now even more sceptical of what can be achieved before Xmas. It might be a fudge and what are the chances of a NO vote from the members?

To be fair the union has always emphasised the importance of doing the job properly.

The Union just need to do more because how else will RM believe there is a major problem in Delivery staff give them so much goodwill and then get s*at on time after time. What about a road-show before we go on the next Strike if there is going to be one?

RM even took the micky recently in one of their propaganda against the Boycott of DSA - by saying that 'delivery is on our blood' - meaning what?

If the union doesn't either come out and announce strike action or a deal tomorrow then Royal Mail have won. There are only so many times you can bluff about taking action until ultimately you have to carry it out, otherwise it loses any of its threat, as the other side appreciates that you never will.

Do you really think that royal mail care about staff being shat on :left: after giving them goodwill. Royal mail will never believe there's a problem in delivery because as far as their concerned there isn't a problem, and there's more room for savings to be made :cuppa

Everyone on delivery should work their hours for a week, not one minute of overtime. This would give a realistic picture of how stretched we are already.

The problem is the flyers, managers see these people coming back at 10.30 and assume those that do the job properly are swinging the lead. If they can finish that early they could quite easily do some more absorption of even yesterday's cut offs, after a few weeks of that they might start doing things the way they should, but until these people are stopped managers are going to continue making cuts.

agree 100%,with worktotime ,summer opportunities as it was called in our office ,is every day now, luckily i only work 3 days a week, and think going back to 5 would kill me ,it,s not just the work ,but the constant hassle wanting to know why im not ready at the same time as people who start 45 mins before their time , selfishly i hope job losses are in the pipeline, and after 28 years i,ll be on my bike.
