Vandals 'blow up' Ribble Valley postboxes

VANDALS caused four post-boxes to ‘explode’ after putting lit fireworks inside.

The attacks caused the doors of the postboxes to fly open or break and also sparked fires which damaged or destroyed all of the mail.

Police said letterboxes in Gallows Lane and Lane Ends, both Ribchester; Hesketh Lane, Chipping; and Inglewhite Road in Inglewhite, close to the Green Man pub, were targeted between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The Ribble Valley attacks were only discovered when a Royal Mail employee went to make collections as normal on Saturday morning, and found the damage.

Police have been unable to establish exactly when they attacks took place, but officers are now making enquiries, and trying to find the perpetrators.

Sergeant Mick Dixon said: “There is no CCTV available due to the remoteness of the area and the locations of the letterboxes.

“We’re asking anybody who witnessed anything at all to let us know or contact Crimestoppers.

“We’d like to speak to anybody who has any information or who has seen any suspicious activity in the area between Friday night and Saturday morning.”
