Post offices have been warned to be on their guard after thieves broke into an adjoining business and attempted to burrow through the wall.

The bizarre incident took place in Barnham Road, Bognor, overnight on Saturday to Sunday.

A Sussex Police statement said: “A business was broken into and laptops were stolen.

“There had also been attempts to break into the Post Office next door through the wall. Further signs of an attempted break to the Post Office were discovered on the roof.

“Can all Post Offices be aware of this incident and if you work in or own a business ensure you have adequate security, alarms are in place and set and CCTV is secure. If possible remove any money from the site.

“Local officers can provide further security advice and have posters for businesses to display in the window to confirm you do not have money left overnight. If you require either of these please contact your officer.

“If you have any information relating to these breaks call 101 quoting the relevant serial number.”
