Postal talks end without agreement

Postal talks end without agreement

The TUC has hosted talks between CWU and Royal Mail over the last week. Those talks were specifically aimed at reaching a settlement with a view to averting the two 48hour strikes commencing Thursday 4th and Monday 8th October.

Clearly that process has now come to an end without an agreement. Real progress has been made in many areas, but there is agreement in none. The offer includes a pay increase of 6.9% over two years but this is subject to linking unacceptable strings including a reduction in pensions benefits. Royal Mail’s proposals also include flexibility proposals that mean, among other things, that postal workers will not know what job they are doing from one day to the next.

The CWU’s Postal Executive will now meet to consider the position reached through talks. Royal Mail continue to implement change without agreement. The union has already announced more strikes and these will continue. In the strikes over the last three days support among CWU’s 130,000 members has been overwhelming.

Billy Hayes, General Secretary, said “Royal Mail’s claims regarding the numbers of people at work are a poor attempt to detract from the truth that postal workers are rejecting their proposals in overwhelming numbers. They should stop using their efforts to spin and start putting them into reaching an agreement.â€
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I don't think looking at RM's provocative action that this is a deal situation, if we buckle they will destroy us, maybe not immediately ,but do you really want to do this again in eight months?
If they flinch we should rip out their guts and stamp them into the dirt, never let a bully get back up if you don't give the killer blow you will regret it

Stand firm - we were told at work months ago by the area manager that Royal Mail would never deviate from its plan, basically telling us not to strike - since then Royal Mail has been negotiating - the latest breakdowns is a devious tac tic to demoralize us - every one wants a solution - but not by selling our terms and conditions up the Swanee.
Gob for the job and mouth of the south!!!

Why dont RM postpone their proposals for say 6 months for a prolongned consultation period whereby an agreement can be reached...theyve already lost 260 million and are set to lose more if they action continues over christmas.
this action is hurting both RM, us and the public...

Leighton and Crozier should be shot for holding this country to ransom for the sake of their bounus payments.

This is a serious bluff from RM in the hope that the union will lose support, STAND STRONG LADS AND LASSES , A FEW MORE WEEKS MAX AND THEY WILL CRUMBLE!
