They are too interested in listening to planners bashing away on a computer screen in a nice warm office,i should have done better at school.

Re: Why don't RM ever test walks?
Our DOM tests walks by putting 'runners' on them then argues his case from there
But since a pair of 'runners' were the only ones able to complete the biggest park & loop duties in the office, they got moved there permanently
Needles to say the pair got rather peeved so the walks were made do-able
The planners designed all the walks to require overtime on the busy days of the week

Re: Why don't RM ever test walks?
To accurately test a walk you need an Industrial Engineer who is able to rate the OPG's BSI over the duration of the delivery and calculate a standard time based on the results. IE's are not permitted to time any job within RM without a current rating card which certifies their ability to assess work rate accurately, these are renewable every 12 months and require attendance and passing of a one day rating clinic.
The business would never, due to cost, allow walks to be tested accurately in the above manner. It is all very well having planners or DOMs test walks but bear in mind that they do not have the training to assess work rate accurately. My own view is that RM should have developed their own alternative to Georoute some time ago and have a system in place for testing walks properly.

Re: Why don't RM ever test walks?
It goes back to the same old issues, managers and ib out to catch you out on delivery if they feel that your not doing your job correctly,ie safely and securlely.but of course that will take longer for the round to be completed??? really? shock horror!!!! happy to want to catch you out,but not to build in the time in the duty so it can be done safely and securely.same old stuff, and as for safety being high on there list, mmmm I think not.
