‘MASSIVE disruption’ to Christmas post deliveries is expected as postal workers stage a series of strikes.
Workers at Weston’s Warne Road Depot have already taken industrial action twice this year, over allegations of bullying and harassment from managers.
But members of the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) still feel their issues are not being dealt with, and following a meeting earlier this week have now announced a series of strikes which will impact on Christmas deliveries.
The strikes will begin at the end of the month, but it is not yet confirmed how many there will be.
The regional official of the CWU, David Wilshire, said: “What is happening is Royal Mail have turned down a number of meetings and haven’t shown any urgency in solving the issues.
“We thought they would act in a mature manner, but they haven’t. We have no other option but to call another strike.”
Mr Wilshire suggested the strikes might be the only way of solving the ongoing dispute between workers and managers.
He said: “We want them to meet us and solve the issues, but if they don’t there will be massive disruption to the Weston area in the run up to Christmas.
“We want to give them the chance, but for a finite amount of time. The dispute has been going on since the middle of July, but the timing of these strikes is down to Royal Mail.
“If they hadn’t cancelled the meetings, they may have sorted it out. Royal Mail managers are just hoping it will go away and it’s not going to.
“In some ways, it’s up to them how many strikes there are in the lead up to Christmas, if they don’t take this issue seriously the likelihood is nothing will be done.”
A Royal Mail spokesman said “Royal Mail is fully committed to the process of trying to resolve concerns of postal workers based in Weston and we will continue to seek to engage the CWU.”

But this is how 'managers' actually 'deal' with things, isn't it?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:“If they hadn’t cancelled the meetings, they may have sorted it out. Royal Mail managers are just hoping it will go away and it’s not going to.
Stick their heads in the sand and wait until it passes over/gets forgotten about.
Well done to them for sticking to their guns.

Like on the national negotiations. RM will never admit to any bullying or harassment going on. Chances are this dispute will drag on and on. Full respect to the men and women making a stand.
