Maybe someone needs to ask why delivery office performance was not capped at 75BSI or even 85BSI.
Why did we allow RM the scope to turn it into a "journey" with the inevitable cuts and lapsing that brings?
And before Bob Gibson pops up to tell us it doesn't mention 100BSI in any agreement, you're right Bob it doesn't but since we can't measure true performance without Industrial Engineers and Royal Mail wouldn't let them anywhere near the process reps were forced to take the figures presented to them as a starting point and argue backwards as to why they were unrealistic.
A job that's really more suited to a professional. :cuppa

I thought it was part of a National Agreement between RM and the CWU that we as members endorsed.
I don't need model weeks and the like explained I've been through a revision (unlike a lot of your reps)

So to ask the same question in a different manner.....
How then do you maintain the agreed EP and take hours out under the roof if you don't remove someone from their duty?
30 names against 30 duties but traffic well below model week.
If you don't lapse/absorb then you've got 30 posties finishing 30/60 minutes early.
Because if you don't absorb when the possibility genuinely exists, then they will still come looking for savings when the possibility doesn't exist.

On the nail with that one fish. Unrealistic targets is the root cause of most problems in delivery and a solution needs to be found rather than Bob just blaming the reps.

Have never argued about absorption when the time exists, the problem arises when the time isn't there, managers won't except that it can't be done, mone person when mentioning to management they didn't have time at the end of their duty to absorb, managements reply was well do it before you start your duty then. When asked what the traffic figure was for that day, manager said haven't a clue, and union man said what's a resource meeting then.

Clash you can absorb duties without taking people off their duties. For example if the iwt says you could absorb then you look at what duties needs to be covered by reserves or what can be absorbed. There is an agreement on reserves and surplus staff working in other offices.

There is no reason to take someone off a duty to create absorption.

Thing what pisses me off is -

Postie A: finishes his/ her duty at 12.30 with absorption, comes back to the office and goes home, DOM does not say anything because the absorption he/her was allocated has been done.

Postie B: knows in his/her own mind that absorption cannot be achieved in his/her working day. When informing the DOM the absorption cannot be done he/her is met with hostility from the DOM, and in many cases accused of swinging the lead.

Should the DOM not send Postie A out and make him/her utilise their hours.

:Applause

Sounds like my office.

Some rounds are a joke, done 3 hours early, whilst others cut off.

Dom accuses cut off posties of being piss takers.

Meanwhile McDonald's does a roaring trade from all the lazy skiving bastards who work 25 hours week and are paid 39

:dance

Yep, these revisions work a treat don't they

This was a major problem at our office, we had F/T posties going home at 11am after absorption and others getting it in the neck because they genuinely had no time! when you asked the dom why the runners didn't do what was left! he would just walk off muttering.

At the end of the day it boils down to bad management, the same bad management that moya does nothing about :thumbdown

Sometimes you can.
You might have a high level of sickness or other staffing issues.
But you might not.
So what if you took the rep off his duty for an extended "resourcing meeting" or gave the A plus champion time to complete any outstanding tasks?
Or you gave the workplace coach time to do whatever they do?
Or what if you just put the names of anyone interested (and who had outstanding leave) into a hat and gave the first name out the rest of the day off?

So the Union does not give a hoot about Reserves? Are reserves some sort of second-class posties that can be pushed around and sent to other offices.

I know dingo and the rest of the CWU hierarchy and many oldies believe some much in seniority and taking care of their long-term folks. However, since Revision and Shared-vans we now have relatively new staff of less than 2 years having walks and people that have been in the service for 8 years or more as Reserves.

Reserves can be moved around, yes but to be sent to other offices is discrimination. I would have expected the CWU to be arguing that reserves should be paid additional allowance for being treated like sh!te and not to pile more on top.

This stinks! In any other job people that are versatile, adaptable and are good all-rounders will be rewarded but not for postmen on delivery. Most reserves know more than regular walkers - especially the same one that have been on the same walks for years and messes up the IPS sorting - day after day :arrrghhh

There is no hope for delivery. These guys cannot really help!

Thanks for the money, CWU - cheers. Now how do I Opt Out of the political funding - for starters. And why was an Opt-in the default?

The other thing to add is that once it is agree to move a leave reserve who thinks he/she has a week or tow to cover annual leave. If that is not possible, we all know that the managers will move on to floaters and failing that they will move some poor sod who possible cannot fight back.

The last time someone's duty to collapsed, it meant his partner got a van to himself on the easier of the 2 rounds - and he was not then working every hour he was paid. Also, he did not have much to travel to do his lapse unlike others in the office. great :whistle

Well heres a thought, why not work say 36.5 hrs for 6 months and then 41.5 hrs for 6 months. Figures can obviously be changed say 35 and 43 etc.

"There is an agreement on reserves and surplus staff working in other offices.

What is that agreement?

Another knife in the back for short
service, fixed term contract often part time O.P.G's.
That is same grade employee's.

More C.W.U sponsored discrimination.

This is illegal.

Collectively bargained employment agreements cannot break the law.

Given that the contract specifically mentions working in other DOs (I believe) it can hardly be illegal.
But it is crap, so given that the rep is supposed to be part of the discussions about moving people to other offices, why doesn't the rep go.
The rep after all should be able to stand up for themselves if they need to cut off and won't get screwed over concerning transport or expenses.
