Re: Official Update
"If we don't get the agreement we have set out to achieve then we will reinstate strike action for a 24-hour period as soon as possible."
"We WILL". Not "we will CONSIDER".
DW, 4th November.
Quite simply, there must be something wrong with my "brain".

Re: Official Update
If enough people do pull out then that would spell the end of the CWU but in reality do we not pay enough for professional chatterers in Westminster without adding to them in Broadway, both organisations can talk the hind legs off a donkey and at the end of the day produce f*ck all and cost us more money.tommytucka wrote:Cwu are a joke, I am out.

Re: Official Update
IMO too much info was given out that progress had been made in ALL areas. If that got out to Joe Public -- and presumably it did -- RM simply has to say "we gave ground on EVERY aspect, proves we tried". PR nightmare.

Re: Official Update
I for one would always strike i just feel that the CWU has let its members down again they should listen to the membership to which they represent. And what the membership want is this dispute resolved Now we want notice served of intended IA and to force RM into a corner and to force there hand to resolve this dispute.

And we would be concerned what joe public think because why? This is a private company now - are joe public influencing the energy providers - of course not because nobody gives a sh1t what joe public thinks.visigoth wrote:IMO too much info was given out that progress had been made in ALL areas. Re: Official Update
Correct me if I'm wrong but, the standard line during a dispute is "this is a last resort ; we very much regret the inconvenience to customers". The owner may be different but it's still the same customers -- unless I missed something.dvbuk55 wrote:And we would be concerned what joe public think because why? Not really, aside from the Christmas bonus most postal workers would like to give their customers a good service at this time of year and will be less inclined to support IA.Hitcher wrote:The closer to Christmas the stronger the unions position is surely?

Re: Official Update
Oh dear. What a bad state of affairs.
It's almost as if the CWU's heart is not really in this.
- To show action, they have to stand up and be counted, to do this you have to do what you say, when you say it.
I cannot believe how they are being bent over with long poles inserted by RM. - It's the ( or at least was to be seen ) the biggest strike action since the 70's - The very last shot that the CWU had at making a real big impact was 2 weeks ago - every day and since then support is waning both for this IA and CWU as a whole.
With the lack of communication coming out is making many people I know despondent with the union and are almost 'accepting' the life they have in RM - with many of them saying they will be leaving union membership as today, it really holds no weight for them.
What once was seen as a tried and tested face in front of RM is now being seen as a laughing joke with little or ineffective impact.
Shame on you CWU for not having the minerals to do what you say. It's a shame for your members and it's a shame for the public who have shown support.
I fear that an awkward agreement will be made in 7 days at which time RM will see this as a victory, I fear that the delivery side of the business CWU will back down and agree to what will become a few non standing - half committed proposals from RM.
A lesson in life that I have always grown up with. - "IF YOU SAY YOU ARE GOING TO DO SOMETHING - THEN BLOODY WELL DO IT"
!!!!!

Re: Official Update
Yet again the bigwigs of the CWU have in my opinion let us down yet again.
Extensions got us the pathetic deal of 2010.
And it looks very like extensions yet again are going to get us a pathetic deal 3 years later.
For one minute, just for one minute I actually thought the bigwigs of the CWU would have learned from the shambles of 2010 but nah. Out of complete touch with the real posties.
They had the chance in 2013 to set a clear and firm message out to Royal Mail. They are repeating the events of 2010 all over again.
Instead of striking and putting Royal Mail under immense pressure in 2010 it was extension after extension and the result? A pathetic deal. Especially for delivery staff.
And here in 2013 the CWU had the perfect opportunity to heap the pressure on Royal Mail and make right the shambles 2010. They had a chance to make our voices heard and have a serious impact to get a deal which is good for each and everyone of us. But yet again they've brought the momentum of strike action to an absolute halt.
Strike when we were supposed to strike CWU! Really put it to Royal Mail! Put the company under pressure to come up with the goods not the CWU!
Is it unheard of to negotiate whist strike action is taking place? Is there an unwritten rule that negotiations can only take place if strike action is postponed?
Maybe it is easier and better to negotiate when strike action is postponed but I can only reflect back to 2010 when negotiations took place whilst strike action was postponed and it was extension after extension.
And the result?
s**t on from the almightiest height in bucket loads.
And now in 2013 unless the CWU comes up with 'the deal of the century' (which is extremely unlikely) then the CWU is well and truly finished.
There really is only so much s**t we the paying members can take. I give the CWU the benefit of the doubt and give them a chance to step up to the mark here in 2013. But I'm certainly not holding my breath.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
