Walks need to be 3.5 hours Maximum .

That's fine if you want a predominantly part=time workforce.

5hrs out in all extremes of weather every working day, is not conducive to good health.
Something needs to be done about that.

Our office is on 4 day weeks. 5.5 Hour deliveries for full-time rural deliveries and 4.5 hour for part time deliveries. It has worked a treat for 2.5 years. There has been no sickness due to delivery spans in this time and we have a varied age group. The oldest being 65 and he loves the extra time off.

What do the workforce do for the remaining hours?

I really hope they come up with some kind of agreement tomorrow, otherwise I can see the union bottling it.

It's living in cloud cuckoo land for most of these higher echelon union bods.

Much as you like to criticise them I don't see how it is their fault that members choose to ignore delivery methods.
How much support would a local rep get if he was insisting his members used the correct tools for the job. Local reps are more to blame than top union bods.
And the membership more to blame than the reps. This is what we are doing to ourselves.

People are resistant to change. The introduction of delivery methods was very poorly handled by everybody.

Well I blame them for an agreement that used delivery methods to increase delivery spans without any way of ensuring that it was adhered to. It indicates a total naiveté in the workings of delivery offices and the mentality of the workforce. Weight off the shoulder is a joke unless the equipment is used. You are right to say the workforce are also at fault for not using the equipment.

have been told our office had 11% taken out instead of 2% and they wonder why we are struggling to complete all the time let alone put up with imcompetance

D2D prep. I.P, some dual prep, meal break of 50 mins, Van checks and delivery. No one comes in early or goes over and doesn't claim O.T.

Our Rep. keeps our manager in line. Managers don't know anything other than what they are told. Which in the main is wrong and out with national/local agreements. They only know how to bully and try to intimidate. Our rep doesn't stand for any of this. The work force support him. Too many members accept the bullying and harassing. Tell your rep or area rep you want to open up a grievance. If it happens through out the office there should be plenty of witnesses to back it up.

Actually biscuit I'm no wiser than you they are just scenarios - no doubt we'll be informed of the result in due course.

This is more than likely to happen.

Any further extension then it's pretty much a failed issue for delivery - I reckon there will be a ballot put forward for pay/pensions etc with the delivery's being constructed as an 'ongoing resolvement' in the New Year.

That way both sides can save face without really admitting the fact they can't come to an agreement.

I think tomorrow will see the union giving 7 days notice of strike action for the 27th because no deal has been done. Talks will proceed just like before but with the strike looming a deal will be agreed at the last minute and the strike will be called off next Monday (The deal will be sorted by Saturday but the PEC will not come back from their Golfing weekend early to ratify things so it will have to wait til Monday! )
