Re: One day to go then...
It's all very well the union arguing that striking now is counterproductive considering parcel business will be lost elsewhere, but why then even threaten strike action if you are never going to follow through on your threats?
This is as weak as the union has ever looked at arguably it's most important time! A shambles.

It will be interesting if we get another extension to 4th December next!dingo wrote:This is not a computer game , a strike is not without risks. Who says Royal Mail won't withdraw the improved pay offer or the legal guarantees ? Remember a strike will damage their revenue and threaten the future of parcel force.
That's not to say we won't strike as if we will do if we have not achieved an agreement by next Wednesday but remember a strike does not mean we don't have further talks cause if we do strike we still have to enter negotiations to get an agreement. Whereas we are already in negotiations.
Now for those who don't understand there are numerous different meetings in these negotiations they are not all in one negotiation. There are separate pay and reward negotiations , discussions on pensions , on the legal guarantees and charter and industrial relations.
There are separate discussions on delivery , processing , network , RDCs , Parcelforce and engineers.
Mark higson would not normally be in on the delivery talks so will be now.

Stay in your posh hotels playing golf with fine dining on membership contributions.
Pull your fingers out and man up.
A very disgruntled member.

Re: One day to go then...
Yes obviously complex issues that we couldn't possibly understand. We haven't all always worked for RM. So I was right in thinking it is yet another delay when there has been no movement since the joint statement when the DGS said there had to be an agreement by the 13th or we would strike. Well what's happened now to cause a further extension. It's all smoke and mirrors dingo absolutely no substance whatsoever to these statements being put out. I pulled out of the union in protest last time they buggered the pooch as did others and at this rate there will be a second exodus. Oh and thank Mark Higson for taking an interestdingo wrote:This is not a computer game , a strike is not without risks. Bernard that's not what I was saying , if we have to strike then so be it and to hell with the consequences ! However does anyone think that when we strike Royal Mail concede on everything ? No they won't and guess what there will have to be a negotiation after the strike if there is one.
The point is does the offer which Royal Mail have given still stand if their is a strike ? Now if we have not got a deal by next Wednesday then we will strike but why do it now when progress has been made and real progress.
Now it's easy being brave and calling for strikes and sell outs how many threads were there about the £300 being lost what if that was the pay and. Legal guarantees for rejecting the chance for further negotiations ?

Re: One day to go then...
Count me in with the numerous dissapointed members hoping the deal was just a formality from the suspension of the strike 7 days ago...
Thanks again Dingo for the heads up...

I thought you said earlier that they have improved offers and conceded on most things and basically they just need a little more time to concede on everything. Really are these negotiations and you expect people to believe this..dingo wrote:Bernard that's not what I was saying , if we have to strike then so be it and to hell with the consequences ! Re: One day to go then...
Exactly who are the union protecting by delaying the strike action? Will RM cave in with a 1 day strike? Of course not but it should focus the senior management into realising they are not dealing with Coco the Clown because it certainly looks like that now to both RM management and serious minded members.dingo wrote:Bernard that's not what I was saying , if we have to strike then so be it and to hell with the consequences ! Re: One day to go then...
dingo,,,we had them by the balls in the ''summer'' of 2009. we will have them on the canvass if we strike at this time of year. it looks like the leadership are bottling it. can you be transparent and tell us what we are all thinking. is it a definite extension?

Re: One day to go then...
Can you honestly not comprehend how weak this makes the union look? We were all prepared to walk out 10 days ago, yet action was deferred because of apparently successful negotiations, with the proviso that if a deal was not forthcoming, strike action would then be taken. Yet we members have heard absolutely nothing that could be deemed progress in those ensuing ten days, yet you are hinting again that there will be another delay to action.dingo wrote:Bernard that's not what I was saying , if we have to strike then so be it and to hell with the consequences ! What progress has been made this time?
I for one find my own interest in supporting any future action waning, and I say that as someone who has been on the gate every time I've been asked by my union leaders, since working for the company. Heaven knows what those who are not so committed must be thinking.
Strike action is now off the table, it seems, as there will just not be enough support for it. The union have played their hand miserably. Kudos to Royal Mail, as they have been a step in front all the way in this dispute, and have made the union look silly.
Game over.
