TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving postman who died on his round.

Rob McGenn, aged 41, of Armoury Road, West Bergholt, suffered heart failure on his round in St John’s, Colchester.

Paramedics treated him, but he was declared dead at the scene in Evergreen Drive.

Rob joined Royal Mail when he was 18 in 1990. His shocked colleagues held a two-minute silence in his honour.

Kevan Pugh, a friend and the Communication Workers’ Union rep, said: “It was a very sad day.

“The mood in the office is sombre.

“Rob was a popular bloke.”

Rob was living his parents.

Mr Pugh said: “Our hearts go out to his family.

“I have known Rob since he started and he has been delivering on that round for years.

“Everyone is in shock and nobody is quite sure what happened.

“He was very jokey and had a good sense of humour. He was a nice guy.

“He had made a lot of very good friends and when things have settled, we will talk about how we can remember Rob best.

“It has been a difficult year with recent deaths for different reasons and everyone is very sad.”

The ambulance service was called on Thursday at 12.51pm.
