Hospital appointments...

got one due soon....mid morning appointment....'manager' says he will give me a man to do half of the round I am on now....I must do the rest....I said that bearing in mind my appointment is around 11.00 am doing half a walk would be difficult...and that I have the hassle of getting to the hospital(on the other side of the city) and trying to find a parking place!
ideally I would have liked to have got home. Had a quick shower then gone...
Other posties who have had hospital appointments in our office in the past have had their walks covered...but this new gaffer is about as 'flexible' as a frozen turd..when it comes to helping staff...anyone offer some advice..i am a CWU member too(over 20 years)..so any help would be great...cheers...oh he did say that because the appointment fell on a work time learning session date...I would have my very own session the following day!!!! I can't sleep with the excitement of it all...

Guessing your app is on a tuesday? if so embrace your WTL on the weds then inform the DOM at the end you will now have to cut off as youve been held up

I've had several past hospital appointments. Always given day off. Not sure if we are entitled to this or whether it is at the discretion of the manager. Suggest you talk to your rep.

Do you have to make up the lost time? We are being told if a hospital appointment last lets say 3 hours with travel, then we have to make the time back up or dom will deduct 3 hours off any overtime. Is this correct? Sorry for asking inside your post

I didn't have too. I think your dom is making the 3 hour rule up.

I didn't have too. I think your dom is making the 3 hour rule up.

if you read her post its not a 3 hour rule, dom is basically saying if you have a hospital appointment then you have to make the time back up or deduct it from your over time which is unfortunately something he can ask you to do

Under the new attendance procedure the manager has a responsibility to be supportive and if the hospital appointment will stop you from becoming a persistent non attender then he should wavier the hours missed! Or have I been dupe when the procedure was rolled out!

Your getting paid when your at the hospital, rm have no obligation to do that hence he can ask you to make the hours back up

If it was a regular thing them equalities act would come in to play but for one off appointments etc it is definitely the case

It would depend what the appointment was for.
If you had a condition that was covered by the Equality Act and you couldn't make the appointment at any other time, it would be a mean and selfish bastard of a DOM that tried to dock your pay.
If however you were contemplating botox because you didn't like your crows' feet..........

not necessarily, again would depend on what its for, if your appointment was covered by an illness covered under the equalities act then probably, but more than likely it would be unpaid

we do not have the right to paid time off to attend appointments, in fact rm ask us to try and arrange appointments for our days off

They can't they would just simply dock your wages for the appropriate number of hours

Really? So if an individual had a lunch time appointment and was due to receive treatment for cancer, they would deduct pay?
