So cloherty, are you not on a weekly wage or are you on some sort of zero-hour contract? I mean if the work is moved away from you then you don''t get paid or what are you and dingo talking about?
It sounds confusing.

Re: talks update
Monthly salary and say you have a duty that is 40 hours and you lose an office maybe mail centre closure you could lose part of your duty or in some cases all. Then you will be put on another duty which might only be a 20 hour week which means you could owe them hours. I don't know of anyone on our office who gas not got paid there salary but you could say lose 30 hours overtime a month which is worth over £500 and it can be a shock for some.chrisj wrote:So cloherty, are you not on a weekly wage or are you on some sort of zero-hour contract? Re: talks update
It is a bit clearer but we are talking you folks on a whole lot more than we get. And this is again a loss of money and duties...
The issue at stake in Delivery is not just about money... As I know you understand. Even if they pay people a lot more money, the body cannot physically cope with the ever increasing workload and pressure.
We are at the end of the line and customer facing...
I do not understand why a closure of a Mail Centre actually affect the volume of mail and the jobs of the drivers - save for moving to another office. MCs have lost a lot of staff but a lot of them have been consolidated - so it is not always a total loss.

Your right but we are losing a lot of work to efficiency like I don't know if you have seen the new 110 York trailers . They are cutting runs all the time. Basically you could have had 3 runs in 45 York artics and then they put one of these 110 Yorkers on a duty and that is 2 duties gone. Most of the new mail centres can take thesechrisj wrote:It is a bit clearer but we are talking you folks on a whole lot more than we get. And this is again a loss of money and duties...

Bearing in mind the festive bonus is due and we are 8 months awaiting a pay deal - anyone remember when the negotiations took place just before christmas and then it was moved to April - another blinder

Re: talks update
Do people that have left the business get pay back when a deal is finally agreed?
Why do these Agreements have to be all encompassing?

also heard the same rumour but if it turns out to be true surely the cwu wont ask the members to vote yes to give away the 300 plus all the back dated pay !!!!!!!OnAFlyer wrote:BS, it would never get voted in. Even RM and the CWU aren't stupid enough to waste their time trying to sell that.Scotland1 wrote:We heard similar rumour, no backdated pay, and 5 year t & c and only £200 at Christmas, pretty much done deal

Re: talks update
When people retire or are sacked at delivery offices they are either not replaced or they recruit someone on a 20hr contract to replace them,so that means more work for those left behind.I have never met anyone who has transferred to a delivery office from a mail centre,in fact it would be interesting to know how many have done so rather than take the golden handshake.cloherty1976 wrote:Your right but we are losing a lot of work to efficiency like I don't know if you have seen the new 110 York trailers . great postSugar wrote:I wouldn't want to work indoors or be stuck behind a wheel. We've been told many a time by individuals who've worked in the mail centres during Christmas pressure that they saw people taking too many breaks and not being able to sort as fast as the delivery staff that were working there. This has happened on a number of occasions when our staff have gone over to the mail centres so not 'a one off'. Even drivers coming in with the mail have told the staff in our office that we should be getting paid what they get paid given the amount of work we have to do daily.cloherty1976 wrote:Your right in what you say but if you don't like slugging your guts out why not move to a different function and have an easy life. Other sections aren't walking around like casualties from some world war 1 battlefield. Deliveries workloads sky rocketed after P&L came in and those that are 2 - 3 yrs into it are the ones paying the price for this with increased sickness through long term accumulation of fatigue, foot and ankle issues from excessive walking. Lots have posted on here about the way they are pressured into working faster and faster each day by lapsing/absorbing, walks being too big. Yet I'm not aware of as many complaints coming from other areas of the business as there are from deliveries. This is not simply a matter of deliveries 'moaning' for no apparent reason. There are lots of reasons why the bulk of the 'moaning' is from deliveries and that's because of what is happening in Do's up and down the country since P&L came in.clashcityrocker wrote:How did other sections come out of the last couple of agreements far far far better than deliveries?
Why would deliveries have voted them in?
We are a union and as such we as a union should be concerned about what is going on in all aspects of the business not take an attitude of 'I'm all right jack' if something doesn't affect my division because at some point it very may will and you could end up needing the support of union members from other areas.

They threatened our office with MC staff if/when they closed it down. The part timers were the ones who would loose out the most if they did move MC staff into the office with a cut in their hours. As it stands every time someone full time leaves their not replaced they set on a part timer who'll never get the chance to have a full time contract.DB1100 wrote:When people retire or are sacked at delivery offices they are either not replaced or they recruit someone on a 20hr contract to replace them,so that means more work for those left behind.I have never met anyone who has transferred to a delivery office from a mail centre,in fact it would be interesting to know how many have done so rather than take the golden handshake.

GREAT POST
As an office we are a few months into our P+ loop/hct revision and the duties are totally unrealistic. 4 or 5 hours a day of walking is not going to be sustainable for any great length of time. You cope for a short while but as the quote above so rightly points out, the human body can only cope for so long. Added to the daily battle to get any excess from the DOM it does not make for a great place to work! Deliveries are under too much pressure at the moment, from a personal point of view i like to complete my round but my health has to come first and soon i will have to start cutting off, with all the bollocks that will bring. This company has really gone down hill in the way it treats its delivery staff. tbh id swap to a mail center at the drop of a hat at the moment, and ive always been very happy on delivery.
