Had the same problem two years ago with a new manager. Totally refused because of the way he spoke to me. Was threatened with conduct code, being moved to another less friendly office. Put in grievance and still refused his requests to flex. Just stick to your guns and do not let him get away with it.

I was suspended for two and a half weeks for refusing to do the flexibility 30 mins( on a day that I was already going to be doing an hours overtime to complete) They then dropped all charges under the reasoning that the correct procedure hadn't been followed by management.

hi really need some advice from people who can help.Told today that tomorrow we will be told we have got to work 30 minutes over and can come in 30 minutes later on sat. Can the 30 minute swings & roundabouts part of this agreement be used to make people work over? I always thought you could still say no as it was a choice?

It's actually part of the delivery simulator training that you should try to plan flexing 12 weeks ahead....go figure.That's probable because RM want to use it more as a resourcing tool than an emergency last resort but the fact remains,it's voluntary.

The dumb thing is it would work a great deal better if managers weren't so bloody pig headed and stupid about it,the best way to use flexing is indoors before start times,not outdoors after finish times,you go to your staff and ask who wants to start 30 minutes early on friday and finish 30 minutes early on saturday and you won't have a shortage of volunteers.You tell your staff they have to work 30 minutes later and might get it back by starting 30 minutes later next tuesday and they'll tell you to f**k off.

Managers in Royal Mail...mostly a liability,I had a DSM tell me he "expects" staff to "do their bit" for the business,I told him they "do their bit" during their contracted hours and what he was expecting was for them to do an extra bit.

He then says he expects "his" managers to work beyond their contracted hours when required so why not the staff?...as if firing up another coffee while you tick some boxes is comparable to slogging it out on the street for 5 hours.
While these guys are in charge there isn't much chance for the business to be honest.

Which is a none point anyway.

Managers are salaried. They do not have contracted hours.That's what my manager told me.
They have a job to do and as such are expected to complete it. It comes with the territory.
My manager tends to do 50 hours a week.
They attend meetings in other units/areas without OT. They have to stay and resolve issues that arise. They can't just up and leave.

Why should you be able to finish before your time?

If you are over your time on other days ; then why dont you claim?
