LTB 745/13 SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Letter to Branches

No. 745/13
Ref: GS14.10
Date: 7th November 2013

To: All Branches

Dear Colleagues

SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE

Earlier this year Branches received LTB 415/13 which contained an Interim Report and Update on Scottish Independence.

We have continued to monitor and track available information including current research and polling data. Our Research team has produced several updates and those for September and October 2013 are attached for your information.

As part of our commitment to conference Motion 25 we commenced a membership consultative programme at the beginning of October 2013.

Andy Kerr, DGS (T&FS), has led on this issue on behalf of the Union - and in consultation with Regional Officers in Scotland the programme commenced on 4th October with a meeting of all CWU branches held in Perth. This was followed by six meetings around Scotland over a two week period. The locations were Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dumfries, Aberdeen and Inverness.

All meetings had speakers from both sides of the debate - the ‘Yes Scotland’ and ‘Better Together’ Campaigns.

To get a wider membership view on Scottish Independence, the NEC has commissioned some polling of CWU members. This will be telephone based and involve approximately 1,000 members, representing around 6% of our membership base in Scotland.

The November edition of the Voice will contain a report of the CWU branch meeting in Perth – and coverage of the event will be available on CWT TV through the union’s website. We aim to conduct some further polling activity in the New Year. A full analysis of the results will be available in any final report to the NEC and branches.

On 26th November 2013 the Scottish Government will publish a white paper on Independence. It is hoped that this will provide much needed clarity on a number of key issues.

Any enquiries on this LTB should be forwarded to the General Secretary’s Office gsoffice@cwu.org, quoting reference GS14.10.

Yours sincerely

W HAYES
General Secretary

Cut the bloke some slack, Fish.
Nationalism is a very potent emotion as many dictators rogues and charlatans have discovered, and proceeded to use to their personal advantage over the centuries. :hmmmm

What have the moderators of RMC got to do with Scottish independence?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
