Don't know if this is the same in other DO's but since the turn of the year we have lost 3 or 4 full timers who have been replaced with 22hr contracts. This has also happened with any part time (28 hr contracts) that have left the business. Our working model states that we should only have 2 of the 22hr contracts in but we currently have 17 I think. Any sorting that has to be covered in the morning ( due to not having the correct number of full timers) is given to the part timers as overtime. A few have been given part time full time contracts, ie their start time has been brought forward for the forseeable future.
Cant help but be worried that this is how the chuckle brothers :lfo :cfo see the future of the business. NO full time contracts just a basic 22hrs per week with the shortfall made up through OT. This saves them money when ur on holiday as your basic is lower.

The flexi system will effectively take out any SA and over time so you can kiss that good bye as well.sweeneytoddd wrote:Don't know if this is the same in other DO's but since the turn of the year we have lost 3 or 4 full timers who have been replaced with 22hr contracts. In my office we have 20hr contracts who are replacing F/T plus other F/T's who stay at their frames (because their duties are to long) so we struggle to complete the IPS on time. It's all about savings (to pay for management bonuses) and running down the job which will lead to privatisation and big money for those who do it

As was mentioned at the TUC conference the bosses will have every single worker on a temporary contract working through an agency if they have their way.
They have somehow convinced the public that this is the way forward for prosperity and that we are dinosaurs standing in the way of the flexible labour market revolution.
Sounds like the great dot.com technology revolution to me and look what happened to that.
No matter what progress we make the powers that be always manage to find new and ingenious ways to con us out of our money and privileges in the name of progress.
This is nothing new it has been going on for thousands of years and yet they still manage to pull off the trick.

We have four staff now on 1 hour contracts!! Yes, they are on call posties who go where htey are needed but, in the event that they aren't wanted one week, they just get 1 hours pay. How do they expect to get people to stay in the business on such bollox?! One fella left for another job after a month of being fooked about and it's easy to see why. Anyone else have these sort of contracts or is it just the brainchild of our DOM?

After they broke the unions in the Docks the employers brought in zero hour contracts - people had to be available on the phone to come in if they were called.
It was going back to the pre Dock Labour Scheme days when dockers had to stand outside the gates every day in the hope of being picked for a days work.
We're going back to Dickensian slave labour conditions which is called 'the flexible labour market' and 'modernisation' by New Labour.

Hi sweeneytodd, shot in the dark but here goes f/t leaves = 20hr contract 20hr savings 2f/t leave = 1 32hr substansive
& 1 20hr contract & 28hr saving 3f/t leave = 2 substantive & 1 20hr contract & 36hr saving and so it continues, but come the JOB LOSSES the guy at the bottom on a 20 hr contract gets the push as he has no protection (FALL GUYS)
POSSIBLE NOT DEFINITE
