Key debate on how deliveries are managed
Complete change in management culture especially in deliveries
A solution has to be found around the daily conflict on workload in deliveries
I cannot see how the above can seriously be addressed.
I cannot see why it shouldn't at least be attempted.
Going out in the last 3 days (Sat & Mon) with the amount of packets and the sizes of these parcels, we are certainly becoming more and more dominant in the parcels* and packets market. Add the blasted D2D growth as well...
What is happening in Delivery cannot now be brushed under the carpet or lumped together with the rest of the group.
Right from the start workload, management of workload and growth of parcels and delivery methods and the usual conflicts/bullying and harassment has always been the most important issue, for me. They can stick their pay rise or even minor adjustments to the pension (mine is defined contributions anyways).
We have been mugged off for too long in delivery and given that we are actually more than any other group - we need to stand up more for ourselves.
80 minutes breaks in MC, whereas for example, a typical 24 hour delivery staff does not have a break built into their contract: 5 hours pay with a 4 hour or more delivery span and other associated jobs - they are having a laugh.
It is my belief and many of the people I know the national leaders have no interest or knowledge of delivery staff issues, the last pay deal which we on deliveries are suffering from now ,like not having extra time to prep D2D and having to deliver d2d even if you have no mail for that house ,and having to take out mail sort on a Saturday, where was that in the last agreement.
Letters may have dropped off slightly but magazines /glossy flats have not and increased.
Packets just keep growing! LOOK WHERE THE UNIONS CONCERN ABOUT DELIVEREIES WAS ON THEIR AGENDA ,RIGHT AT THE VERY BOTTOM I SUPPOSED THEY HAD TO MENTION DELIVERIES SOMEWHERE,WHAT A NUSIANCE
What most delivery staff want is a fair days pay for a fair days work !
Same wages as mc staff yet no nice warm building out in the cold rain all weathers fatigue problems pressure from managment. I thing delivery staff should get a bigger delivery payment to compensate the different workloads.
I know people will say work to your time but that is all well and good but it is a daily battle and that is where the bullying and harassment and stress and sickness absence and even injuries comes from in delivery...
If your delivery span has been planned with rubbish information using rubbish software, incomplete data and pitched at some sort of below par average then how can you manage when you have even more packets, tracked, signed for (yes - all small packets from ebay and letters from insurance companies and debt collectors do take time).
So if the original plan was for 3/4 d2ds and then you get 7 or more, exactly how is that time going to be found?
The explosion of the items that I have mentioned above and cheap as chips bulk mail and DSAs has completely cancelled out time gain from sequencing and whatever percentage drop in regular* letters.
Billy, waffled about Privitsation and how we fought the good fight. The RMT stuffed the Miners in 1926 and something else.
Dave Ward, talked about a 50/50 chance of solving this dispute, but be prepared for a strike on November 20th, as there were some major issues around workload / B&H.
Bob Gibson, said it's all your fault because you don't use the agreements. There's no 100 BSI,
Bullying and Harassment is in Royal Mail's view non-existent as there have not been many disagreements or local strikes so it must all have been rosey since 2010.
Tell them to stuff the pay rise and get rid of lapsing. It was a great idea but just causes so much stress in the workplace for such tiny savings for Royal Mail. That would help some of the workplace issues in terms of b&h. In terms of people finishing before their times, they can take a long term view of people, monitor them over 6 months gaining a full picture and if there is some room to increase their duties then do it. Real solutions built in, not agreements with gentlemen shaking hands about how the culture will change. Here's hoping but I fear we'll be disappointed.
Ahebban wrote:... delivering D2Ds on a daily basis irrespective of whether other mail is available helps protect full time jobs and fill out your delivery span.
.
so would setting all offices at 75 bsi save jobs - so your above statement along with the D2D into workload saved jobs argument is different for every office and has to take in to consideration what increase in EP was agreed at each offices delivery revision - set a high EP, turn a blind eye to H&S and ignore the increase in packets and hey presto hours are taken out.
Now that we are all using vans, is there much savings being made from lapsing. Most of the revised walks are operating at almost full capacity except the odd few times... Using a national or even local traffic figures can never address the issues of lapsing for each individual walks - all walks are different and they are different on different days...
The idea that up to 20 or 30 postmen are covering one walk just does not sound efficient. Also because no one person is actually responsible, the lapsed walks tends to fail on many aspects and the customers do suffer from poor service
Lapsing is just a bad idea and if they want people to be fully engaged then bring in clocking in and out. Monitor and assess walks frequently and make changes in time as suggested but in the meantime, bring the staff that are constantly finishing early or on easier walks to do other jobs in the office, if any.
The foundation of the this company is build on delivery ,its the most costly , thats why we are always under attack , but one thing we have always had is a strong defence against attack, it is our union.in our office we have internal squabbling but when we are attacked locally or nationally, we all come together because we no, unity is strength, 27 years on still fighting for our terms and conditions .no I am not a rep, just a part of the union..... good night family

I agree with banner!

Absolutely, for me its all about terms and conditions, but the back pay is £300 now, and is what is owed to us.
If they pull a fast one and take that off the table then they can do one.
That is pay rise back paid and owed.
