Footwear and damaged toes......

Can anyone please offer some advice?
Waited for some new cat trainers in the summer, but took so long, i had to wear a pair of my own trainers which i damaged and ruined. Eventually i received my new work shoes, but i have big feet and go through 3 pairs a year, so these lasted just 4 months till i had to ask again for some new ones. In the meantime, i used my new trainers which i again ruined. I also have very sore toes/nails due to water affecting them.(my trainers are not workshoes) I'm now in a situation where i am waiting for my new cats, and about to ruin a 3rd pair of my own shoes whilst waiting for workwear. Can i claim the money spent on my own footwear which i have now ruined at work? Is there a back log for such footwear? I have tried all other boots/shoes, but only the cat trainers are the most comfortable for my size 13 and highly bridged feet.

With regards to current CAT Trainer Orders, we have been made aware that in the mean time Royal Mail Uniform are currently out of stock of sizes 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 of the CAT trainers. However, Royal Mail are expecting two deliveries this month one on the 18th and one on the 28th in total 8730 pairs which will cover all back orders

No you can't retrospectively claim compensation for wearing your own shoes.
You can if the standard footwear issue is not suitable due to medical issues claim up to (I think) £30 to purchase your own but I also think you need a covering letter from your GP.

What I have done for years is always order long before I might need replacements,sometimes if the uniform bods have an issue with this I need to get my manager to authorise it.

Royal Mail footwear is PPE, so by not wearing these you could be leaving yourself open to the conduct procedure if you were to have an accident.
If Royal Mail are failing to provide you with adequate footwear then you may have a case to refuse to work on the grounds of health and safety.
As someone previously said, if you have a medical reason for not being able to wear Royal Mail issue footwear you should be able to claim for some. But make sure you get referred to Atos so its on record.
Again like previously mentioned, you could order your footwear through your line manager about a month earlier than when needed.

Incorrect, Royal Mail footwear is generally uniform only, it is technically termed as 'occupational' footwear, (as opposed to safety or protective), and should conform to EN ISO 20347.

Thanks for your help all. Going to ask to be referred to ATOS, as I now have swollen toes and my nails have got very brittle due to being constantly wet. The longer I have to wear my own shoes, the worse they will get.....I wonder if I will recieve new work shoes in the next 48 hours?

If I was your medical professional, I'd suggest that a foot problem caused by constantly wet feet was something over which you ultimately had control and certainly wouldn't be recommending allowing you any more non-waterproof trainers.

Get a letter from your GP and to say your footwear is not fit for you and the purpose of your job you should get a £50 a year allowance to purchase the footwear of your choice. But make sure they are durable and not to garish IE orange with yellow stripes or your DOM will hit the roof.

Thought it was £50 them crappy cats are near £70 and don't last two month's still I would have £30 to my footwear than not if I needed to protect my feet from the damage royalmail footwear causes maybe we could sue them in a joint action and being in the union it would be easier!
