We could use half the hot air Salmond spouts to power Glasgow and Edinburgh :left:

Seems like Godric has swallowed all the "Guess Scotlands" propaganda and spouting it on here.

you do not know what you are tslking about .... this board is not Followfollow.com where everyone follows like sheep or goats

brothermagrew wrote:With regards to your EU legal advice point the full transcript of that interview makes very clear, Salmond was talking about the issue of Scotland’s continued EU membership in terms of general debate and in terms of many eminent legal opinions offered.

“Salmond was also, as the interview makes clear, speaking in terms of the various Scottish Government documents containing reference to an independent Scotland’s membership of the European Union.

“These publications are ‘Choosing Scotland’s Future’, published in August 2007, page 24; ‘Your Scotland, Your Voice’ published in November 2009 at page 107; and ‘Your Scotland, Your Referendum’, published in January of this year at page 4. All of these documents are underpinned by legal advice from our law officers, they have to be, that is the reality.”

Why waste the £12k suppressing the FOI request then?

2008 and he claims that an independent Scotland would be part of the Euro, now it's a Sterling zone with the rest of the UK

The Nats are all over the place in this debate and now say what they think will win them votes, Thankfully most Scots can see through their deceit and will return a No vote.
we shall see when the economic argument is spelled out nearer the time of the vote .... because the no campaign wants to ignore the economic question as they know Scotland's economy is in better shape than the rest of the UK and recent polls have shown that the Yes campaign is growing in strength with less than 10% points between Yes and No with around 15% undecided .... it is all to play for

I would like to point out to those using the ad hominem argument to attack the Independence position that Independence is not Alex Salmond.
The position predated the tartan trousered one and I have no doubt it will postdate him as well.

If it is to be a personality contest let's at least bring some of the contenders into the debate..how about the invisible woman of Scottish Politics Johann Lamont leader of the Scottish Labour Party who after finally finding her voice stood up and asked....."Why won't the First Minister stand up to the Big Six energy companies on behalf of the people of Scotland and back a freeze?".

Well that would probably be because we have no power over the energy companies, that is one of the reserved powers for Westminster to play with.
You would think someone in her position should know that.

Who next?
You decide.....Tavish Scott the Viking is always good for a laugh.

simply the best and you believe that the Scottish Government is the only Government to suppress / block FOI requests.

The Scottish Government maintained that legal advice has always been a privileged matter exempted under the Freedom of Information Act, and pointed out that when in power at both Westminster and Holyrood the same Unionist parties, who were calling for the information to be made public, cited the same exemption when refusing to reveal legal advice that they themselves had been given.

The back end of 2011 the UK Government blocked a freedom of information request for its advice on Scotland in Europe.

To paraphrase your own words: Thankfully most Scots can see through their deceit and will return a No vote. More like the vast majority of deceit is espoused from the Westminster unionist parties and the only Scots who will return a No vote are those that drape themselves in the old red, white and blue.

I'd love it if most Scots draped themselves in Red, White and Blue, thankfully whatever religion and colour most can see the Nationalist lies and deception.

SNP commisioned poll's and still well behind.

Typical Nat, you have written plenty on the subject and saying nothing other than Scaremongering and fairer society, Nat word bingo at it's best, the white paper due out this month should finish the Guess Scotland campaign off, my only worry is apathy from those in the No camp thinking that the job is done.

actually this so called Snp commissioned pollster "Panel Base" is a independent pollster the only Pollster that got the last election right when it said Snp would win outright

The referendum is not about party politics ... this is all the no campaign can concentrate on that and Iraq and Afghanistan .... the economic facts are Scotland is better off out the union where our voice is ignored by London .... The people of England will decide if Scotland remains in the EU if their is a no vote ....

pigs will fly before I ever drape myself in a union rag

Godric says he would never wrap himself in a union rag.Nats dont like the union and there is a lot of ugly prejudice against the english.I am no fan of westminster politics or union jack bearer but despite it failings the currennt system works.Scots should be proud of their culture and heritage but still be able to see the how illogical and dangerous it is to separate from the uk .

just goes to show how ignorant you are by that same instance you must believe England is Britain then .... and another thing I don't have hostility towards the English this is just an excuse from the naysayers ... I have actually encountered more anti English hostility from the nay sayers ... and FYI my brother in law is Cornish and he has 2 sons to my twin sister .... not that I should have to explain myself to you or your ilk ..... your narrow mind can't see that we want a better Scotland for the people that live in Scotland and take responsibility for our decisions instead of blaming the English for our own ills

the current system works your having a laugh ?? who exactly voted for the Tories in Scotland ?? they have no mandate in this country, Bedroom tax Austerity cuts (when the Scottish economy is in SURPLUS ... government figures also excluding oil, gas and whisky) England will decide if we were to remain in the EU if the status quo continues .... and that works for you ??

nobody does hostility like the London based media ... in regards to Europe and the EU now that is real hostility ....

It works for who?
The majority of Scots think they pay too much into the union and get too little back, the majority of English believe that the Scots are subsidised by them. The current system only works in a Jeremy Kyle sort of way...dysfunctional and full of bile about sweaty socks and soft southerners.
Let's stop pretending the union is anything more than a financial enabler or an emotional crutch for some and a pseudo-religious,loyalist,bigoted,historically embarrassing pile of shite for others.

Please explain Godric how we'll be better off Independent yet have absolutely no control over our interest rates either in a Sterling zone or the Euro

our Economy is better and stronger but we are getting no benefit for it Scotland is 1 odf 2 regions in the UK with a surplus South east of England being the other region .... this is government figure but those figures do not include oil, gas and whisky which are included in the UK GDP and not the Scottish GDP ... oil and gas companies can't go and set up oil/gas rigs in the north sea as they please ... they have to pay a lease over 10 - 15 years to extract the oil those leases are worth £10s of billions to the UK economy per year hence they are desperate to keep hold of us ...... it was Scottish oil that got the UK out of the jam in the 80s and 90s only for them to spunk the rest on useless projects and policies .... quite frankly the UK's debt as a whole can not be solved by north sea oil at over a £trillion in debt and rising this year by a further £150 billion (Government figures again) staying in the Union will doom generations of young Scots trying get a job or buy a house ...... their is over £1 trillion in oil reserves in the north sea alone and a geological survey by the UK government in the mid 1990s stated that their is more oil & gas off the west coast of Scotland than their ever was in the North Sea this was reported to Parliament and announced by Michael Portillo .... the only reason it is not being tapped is because the UK's submarine fleet is based on the west coast of Scotland ......

Heathrow's biggest export customer is none other than Scottish Salmon ...... to many Scots for some reason or another seem to hate their country of birth and love to put it down .... 8.4% pays 9.9% of UK's taxes as for the Sterling Zone that is one of several decisions still to be made as whoever wins the next election after a YES (hopefully) vote will decide what currency we use ... their is nothing to stop us using the Scottish Pound as a separate currency much like the Canadian dollar .... but in reality the sterling zone would be a short term fix .... actually separate countries do set their own interest rates within the EU

Perhaps a moderator could move this out of the union room and you could have your own Bawbag room - complete with little oil rig smilies?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
