Exactly what I was thinking :) Although I am more reconnect comms about 6 times a day as the stupid things are always offline. That's if the screen isn't frozen, battery low, or anything other number of problems we get with them!
We have been told to leave comms on at all times, with the threat of 'retraining' and 'disciplinary procedures' for repeated failures on this front.
Quite how they intend to prove it is deliberate, I don't know.

And yes, they are trackable, but only when you scan and that info is sent.
We were advised to turn comms off to preserve battery life.

I'm all for a conspiracy theory! :Very Happy I may have to start leaving my PDA in various places and pick it up on the way back...just to confuse the trackers. What if I wrap it in silver foil will that jam the signal? :hmmmm Just had a though I'll get my Grandson to follow me around on his push bike ...then he can zoom off here and there making me look FAST! :Very Happy

Leave it somewhere safe where it won't be found pick it up on way back, DOMs desk would be the perfect place no one will find it there.

We all get advised to do varying things.
And that's fine.
Until something goes wrong.
And then the boss denies the instruction.
As long as there are multiple witnesses to that instruction, it's fine.

If you get new batteries they last 4+ hours and still have over 50% left. Our old ones were hardly lasting the walk until we had all batteries replaced.

As for not taking a PDA out, what happens if you get on the walk and someone has put a recorded/tracked missort in the frame without you knowing? Just take it out!

They're a total waste of time. Waiting for people to sign for a small cheap parcel etc , everything except specials should be treated like a TRACKED/NO SIGNATURE so we can scan the barcode and post it or hand it over, it's our job on the line if the things go missing.
It would save lots of time. As for tracking you that's total bull, they're about as intelligent as my doggy peg, it's just a glorified mobile sending data so they can confirm delivery at a certain time should anyone bother to track their parcel. God knows how much they pay vodafone , total waste of money.
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

Yep brilliant idea more posties to the dole office please. The value of the parcel or letter is irrelevant signed fors and recordeds keep you in a job, if a signature is obtained the recipient can't say they didn't get it, and the longer you need to stand on the door step less room for cutting staff. Getting rid of signed for/ recordeds and such means either bigger duties or more absorption, either way someone loses there job.

My understanding is that PDAs should not be left in the van unattended, even when you have a loop without barcode items.

I'm confused about PDAs on HCT walks, when they are locked up with all mail removed, because the HCT will be left unattended for longer than the high security risk of 2mins. Is it ok to leave the PDA in the HCT? If not, is it ok to put the PDA with the removed mail, in a replishment bag at the official replenishment point? Or should the PDA be carried in person?

they can be left in the van in the glove box,

ic can be left inside the HCT or you could ask your DOM to order the holster for you which allows you to carry it all the time

Comes under everything but specials. There is no time nowadays to wait for a signature, the £1.10 should just cover the cost of scanning and tracking. As for jobs lost by cutting down delivery time? That's what we are all aiming for , a few more minutes to breathe , not more time to get off early!

Recordeds for Tracked Signature items need the signature otherwise they are failing. Say a few people sending items complain about no signatures, you'd probably end up getting your P45

no point in this, as the pda only records your location when your scanning an item anyway, items still get scanned and location recorded even with comms suspended, when comms are reconnected to download the items the locations where you scanned the items are sent then, just means dom needs to wait till comms are reconnected to find out where and when you were scanning things
If you suspend coms at place a, then drive to place b and scan an item still with coms suspend, then drive back to place a, reconnect coms, the pda will never even know you have been to place b as all coms (including the tracking device) have NOT been active.
