Newly privatised Royal Mail is launching its first TV ad in six years to promote the dedication of its postmen and women in the build-up to Christmas.

The campaign features a version of The Beatles’ classic song 'All You Need Is Love', recorded at Abbey Road Studios by the Royal Mail Choir. It shows parcels being delivered across the country in all types of weather, with the endline, "We Love Parcels".

The delivery business has launched a teaser ad today ahead of the debut of a full-length, 60-second ad during tomorrow’s 'The X Factor' ITV. A 30-second Christmas version will also air later in the year.

The ad was created by agency (Beta), with media planning and buying by UM London. Royal Mail selected the 25 stars of the ad after an audition process involving 2,500 of its employees.

Ben Rhodes, head of marketing and commercial strategy at Royal Mail, said: "Our people are responsible for delivering millions of precious parcels a year, and they go the extra mile to make sure that our customers' needs are met – never more so than at Christmas time.

"We wanted to capture this spirit, as well as celebrate our postmen and women, and the job they do, from start to finish."

The Government has been criticised over its handling of Royal Mail’s privatisation, after its share price rose significantly above the 330p the stock was sold at.

Its workers yesterday called off a one-day strike scheduled for 4 November.

Southport postie in national TV ad

A POSTMAN from Southport made his debut to millions of people this week as he features in Royal Mail’s first major TV advertising campaign in six years.

Tim Freer, who is based at Royal Mail’s office in Southport, stars in the advert called ‘We Love Parcels’ which celebrates the 1 billion parcels its postal workers deliver a year.

In the advert, Tim can be seen delivering parcels first hand to a very excited little girl.

The advert was first screened during the ad break on Saturday night’s X Factor on ITV (November 3).

The advertising campaign has been launched at the start of Royal Mail’s build up to Christmas; the company opens 10 temporary parcel sort centres across the UK on Monday, as part of its planning for the festive season deliveries.

Tim was chosen to appear in the ad after Royal Mail issued a call to 132,000 of its front line staff to invite them to audition for a part.

2,500 employees applied and Tim was one of 25 who were selected to star in the commercial after auditioning in front of an accomplished judging panel of film producers and directors.

Tim, a 51-year-old father of twins, said: “I'm very proud to be given the opportunity to represent Royal Mail in an advert that will be aired on national TV, and I’ve really enjoyed the experience of being part of this huge project.”

The advert is accompanied by a special version of the iconic Beatles song ‘All You Need is Love' which was sung by the official Royal Mail choir and recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios.

The launch of the ad has been timed to coincide with the onset of Christmas, Royal Mail’s busiest time of year.

"Love Parcels’ which celebrates the 1 billion parcels its postal workers deliver a year .... Royal Mail issued a call to 132,000 of its front line staff to invite them to audition" - so at about 220 days a year worked each isn't that about 34 parcels a day we each deliver ?

All employees were written to at home with this nonsense. 2500 applied. Which means over 120000 were not interested. Stop pestering people royal mail with unwanted paraphernalia to our homes.

The advert will screen during the ad break on tonight’s X Factor on ITV.

The advertising campaign has been launched at the start of Royal Mail’s build up to Christmas.

Postman’s starring role in national TV ad

A postman from Newtownabbey will star in a new TV ad campaign after being chosen ahead of 2,500 Royal Mail employees for the coveted role.

In its first major publicity drive for six years, the massive company has selected Gary Murray as one of 25 postal workers who will appear in the 60-second commercial - which will be shown for the first time today.

Titled ‘We Love Parcels,’ the ad features a version of The Beatles classic All You Need Is Love which is sung by the Royal Mail Choir.

Gary can be seen brightening the day of a young woman as he delivers a parcel to her at work.

The newly-wed postie, who has been with the company for almost two decades, said: “It means a great deal to me to be picked to represent both Royal Mail and Northern Ireland – I’ve worked for the Royal Mail for 20 years now so this opportunity is both an exciting and daunting one.”

Around 2,500 of the company’s 132,000 front-line staff responded to the call to audition in front of an accomplished judging panel of film producers and directors.

Now that he’s been successful, Gary is getting nervous about his TV debut.

“I wait with bated breath and hope I don’t look too embarrassing,” he joked.

The advert will be screened during the ad break on tonight’s X Factor on ITV. The campaign has been launched at the start of Royal Mail’s increase in workload on the run up to Christmas.

Ten temporary parcel sorting centres will open across the UK on Monday as part of the Royal Mail’s planning for the festive season.

The new version of All You Need Is Love was recorded by the Royal Mail Choir - made up of workers from Bristol and Bath - at the famous Abbey Road studios where the Fab Four recorded the original 46 years ago.

A special Christmas version of the advert, which despite the snowy scenes was filmed on location in the United Kingdom in July this year, will air later this month.

The adverts celebrate the role Royal Mail’s people play in delivering one billion parcels a year.

A shortened version can be seen online at http://www.youtube.com/royalmail" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “The 60-second commercial shows the care and commitment taken by Royal Mail’s people to deliver parcels to addresses across the UK no matter the weather, as well as the joy people receive when they get their parcels.”

Baljinder Singh will appear on television during X Factor ad break

http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/1078154 ... ing_debut/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

HE’S the proud postie who will be a familiar face on doorsteps across a Hampshire community.

And tonight (Saturday) Baljinder Singh will be making his acting debut to millions of viewers when he features in an advert for his employer Royal Mail.

The 32-year-old, of The Recess, Boyatt Wood, has been working for the Royal Mail for the last six years since he arrived in England, and currently delivers in the Chandler’s Ford area.

The company issued a call to 132,000 of its frontline staff and Baljinder was one of 25 selected out of 2,500 employees who applied.

Filming was done in London, where Baljinder had to deliver mail and talk on the doorstep with a customer.

Baljinder has told his family, including son Yuvraj, four, daughter Amrit, two, and wife Pushwinder, 31, about the ad but has kept his customers in the dark, hoping to surprise them.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” he said. “I feel proud.”

“The Royal Mail is a big company, it’s got a long heritage – being part of the Royal Mail is a huge opportunity, it’s an honour.”

The advert, called ‘We Love Parcels’, which celebrates the one billion parcels its postal workers deliver a year, will be screening during the ad break of ITV’s X Factor.

great what a ridiculous tagline "We Love Parcels" by jove I hate the ruddy things, what a pain in the ass eh? If only we could actually get rid of them all instead of writing out 739 after 739...

I usually play by the rules and the one time I signed for a parcel I was not 100% sure about but was 90% sure I could get away with, they bloody but in a complaint. Even my manager thought it was ridiculous, it fitted through their letter box and the regular postie signed for their stuff all the time, they probably don't like change!
