that scheme has nothing to do with foreign investors that is Scottish money ... countries like Qatar is investing in the technology as Scotland is in the forefront of green technologydvbuk55 wrote:Godric wrote:a big wave scheme is being built off the north west of Scotland that will generate 20% of our energy needs and if it does not work then why are countries like Qatar investing billions in Scottish renewablesI expect they'll want a return on the investment regardless and will charge the appropriate amount to ensure they get it. I wouldn't have thought it was a grandiose gesture of support for independence. Oh and the other 80%?

Any investment must have a return quotient or it would be considered a gift.Godric wrote:that scheme has nothing to do with foreign investors that is Scottish money ... countries like Qatar is investing in the technology as Scotland is in the forefront of green technologydvbuk55 wrote:Godric wrote:a big wave scheme is being built off the north west of Scotland that will generate 20% of our energy needs and if it does not work then why are countries like Qatar investing billions in Scottish renewablesI expect they'll want a return on the investment regardless and will charge the appropriate amount to ensure they get it. it could be worse I suppose ... like getting another country to build new nuclear power plants because the UK can't afford to build them themselves or don't have the technology to do it themselves ... I know what route I would rather see Scotland godvbuk55 wrote:Any investment must have a return quotient or it would be considered a gift.Godric wrote:that scheme has nothing to do with foreign investors that is Scottish money ... countries like Qatar is investing in the technology as Scotland is in the forefront of green technologydvbuk55 wrote:Godric wrote:a big wave scheme is being built off the north west of Scotland that will generate 20% of our energy needs and if it does not work then why are countries like Qatar investing billions in Scottish renewablesI expect they'll want a return on the investment regardless and will charge the appropriate amount to ensure they get it. And where would you get the money to build your nuclear power stations?Godric wrote:it could be worse I suppose ... like getting another country to build new nuclear power plants because the UK can't afford to build them themselves or don't have the technology to do it themselves ... .
The other difference being pie-in-the-sky green "technology" ( a ploy greaseball Salmond uses to increase his vote on the back of Green issues) vs reliable nuclear energy generation, of course.
But isn't this just the same?-.. like getting another country to build new nuclear power plants because the UK can't afford to build them themselves or don't have the technology to do it themselves ... I know what route I would rather see Scotland go
Ie, so the Scots don't know how to do it and don't have the money either?countries like Qatar is investing in the technology as Scotland is in the forefront of green technology

Renewable energy in Scotland is not "pie-in-the-sky" Tman.Tman wrote:The other difference being pie-in-the-sky green "technology" ( a ploy greaseball Salmond uses to increase his vote on the back of Green issues).
Do some research,we've got the perfect combination of wind, water and wave and tidal conditions for renewable energy production,We've been doing it from the 1950's with the Hydro Board.
Around 35 per cent of Scotland's electricity came from renewables in 2011.
About the only renewable energy source that's feckin useless up here is solar panels but then that's the case for most of the UK.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

We could use half the hot air Salmond spouts to power Glasgow and Edinburgh
Seems like Godric has swallowed all the "Guess Scotlands" propaganda and spouting it on here.

Are you from 'Guess UK'. Why is it that every one and their uncle demands to know the price of cheese in an independent Scotland but try getting a straight answer to what Labours plans are if they win the next general election or how exactly peoples living standards will improve and its musical chairs with the coalitions budget.simply_the_best wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:

Are we meant to believe that we have such a basket case of an economy in Scotland that the establishment and David Cameron are trying to save us from ourselves out of the kindness of their hearts?

Re: The impact of independence on Scottish postal services
Salmond whether he spouts hot air or not is more than a match for the three unionist wannabes in the Scottish Parliament Lamont, Davidson and Rennie. He reminds me of that hair shampoo (head and shoulders), and he most certainly is head and shoulders above their ilk.
