With the progress which has been made it was the right thing to suspend the action next Monday as if we had not Royal Mail would have gone out to staff on the improved offers and members would be asking why the union had rejected them without getting into further negotiations

There is a lot of issues to resolve in the next 7 days and It is high stakes we are playing for. If we can't get the agreement we want by the 20th then we will take further action and serve notice on the 13th.

Keep the faith. For all you who were going in or challenged the union position , see what fighting for your future gets you. .
Nice to hear from you bret, considering you joined in 2006 and this is your 1st post, with the insights into the machinations of the negotiations BUT there is no substance whatsoever to the points raised which ARE the subject of the negotiations. If RM could go out to the staff with the "improved offers" why aren't the CWU going to its members with the substance of these offers. We don't need telling these are high stakes and worth fighting for but what exactly is the prize? Nothing I have seen so far would persuade me we should not have gone ahead with the day of action - perhaps that would persuaded Moya to get her staffs backside in gear and reach a solution NOW. They've had two weeks to improve the offer and now another two weeks? Lets get real here its time to stand up and be counted - remember Chamberlain? and we know how that ended!

:thumbup like i mentioned before in a previous thread.if the deal is acceptable then you accept,if you feel the c.w.u have not done enough you say NO go back and get a better deal.we must not lose sight that the membership are the union and therefore any final say should lie with us.its not always easy to agree, but we should all read any deal and think carefully about what it means to YOU.get involved and get interested!!!!!!.

I'm glad to hear that, as I'd consider resigning as rep and coming out of the CWU, if we ever signed a no strike deal, we can never sign away our right to withdraw our labour - it's a last resort that should protected at all times.

And what if RM do the same again, and do just enough for the stike action to be put off again......edge a little closer to XMAS.....before you know it we've lost the momentum.

If the deal even vaguely resembles BT2010, the I'll hand back my card to the rep.
There is always going to be a loss of members who see £££ and when they don't get them, leave the CWU
But the CWU's actions over the last few years are driving away most of the more committed supporters. People like me who do things on principle NOT for a few ££'s
As others have said, It's last chance saloon time

I take it that you had a private copy of the BT2010 agreement where every point was ticked off and fully understood and that everything was clearly explained - because if you did you'd be the only one. :cuppa

like i said its not easy to agree or get the info, but as an individual you get a say or vote.that agreement was not the best.but some people just go along with the flow, some could not care less.i agree with what your saying but we all should question the info.my point was more that people should have questions and ask for answers they arent sure about..

A joint CWU and managers' strike on Monday would have killed off Moya (f**k Amazon, who else can they use long term?). RM would either have gone public with their improved offer or settled before Monday. If they had gone public, it wouldn't have made much difference.

I hope the CMA has their time limit extended so a joint strike is still possible if the POL strike also gets postponed.

I take it also you weren't party to the CWU Roadshow to sell it to the membership then.

being in a trade union is not what it used to be thats for sure.i feel they are all on the slide but I WILL have my say, I WILL have a view, and I WILL question what effects me,whether any one is listening i care not..i know alot of people who are disillusioned and rightly so..i feel your preaching to the converted..

What good is a union that doesn't have the ability to strike as a last resort? without there is no point belonging to the cwu.

Yes i ag ree and under last agreement union said rm would become more family friendly ie more sats off . this has not happened and we have to work so late picking kids up from school at 3 is getting near on impossible we work till 3 sat meaning less weekend with family and they make you walk about 8 miles a day meaning you are totally knackered when you get home! what about bikes coming back? the job was a lot better with bikes all they needed was another few pt drivers to cover extra parcels, we had no vote about bikes going who actually prefers trollies to bikes? and what about the enviroment with all these extra vans?

She wanted the union to withdraw the ballot on the basis of the improved offers the business would make. This was rejected and at this point talks looked like breaking down as the business would not agree to a ballot extension.

Today Royal Mail moved their position and agreed an extension.

Royal Mail have agreed to putting a new improved pay offer on the table? They have agreed it won't be linked to the pension settlement.

On top of this they have moved their position on the legal binding guarantees from 3 years to 5 years but the 5 years is not an end date but a review.

On workplace issues talks will take place concerning resolving the absorption problems and how management are resourcing to workload driven by budgets rather then duties.

Now the other sticking point is that whilst the business now accept the union will never accept a no strike deal they have done a complete somersault on now wanting binding arbitration. The CWU will not agree these either or pendulum arbitration. Royal. Mail are clearly concerned that they have committed to no executive action and the most the CWU are willing to commit to is mediation which often happens with ACAS involvement now and arbitration which is not binding.

The CWU have said that you will never resolve industrial stability unless the business stops the bullying and Harassment at Area and local level and have challenged the business to come forward with how they propose for this to happen.

With the progress which has been made it was the right thing to suspend the action next Monday as if we had not Royal Mail would have gone out to staff on the improved offers and members would be asking why the union had rejected them without getting into further negotiations

?? how can you serve notice on the 13th november if you are trying til the 20th to get an agreement

Royal Mail have agreed to improve the pay offer and extend the legal protections from 3 years to 5 with no end date but a review and notice periods

The threat of strike action has moved the employer and in the next 7 days there will be either an agreement or the union has to serve legal notice by the 13th of November for strike action.
do you not mean 14 days dingo. they have 14 days to reach agreement.
