Note the US postal position

Thanks to whoever put the link to the US postal carriers.

If ever we needed to think about why we are striking learning about the terms and conditions in the US postal service should be enough motivation for anyone!

''Europe vs. North America

Differences between European and North American labor markets would create different experiences under deregulation. To date, a few countries have fully privatized their postal services. However, those countries’ experiences are not good indicators of the likely results if these same policies were implemented in the United States.

For instance, Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands have strong labor laws that protect workers rights. Therefore, competitors are forced to play on a fairly even playing field with the public delivery networks.

That is not so in the US where:

The minimum wage lingers at $5.15 per hour.

[so @ $2.03 to £= 2.53 per hour..current Uk min wage £5.52 or $11.20]
Health care is not guaranteed in the US (though it is publicly provided in EU countries).
Pension coverage is not mandated
Organizing rules are much weaker in the US and
Rules maintaining paid time off are not nearly as strong as those in the above countries
Naturally, this leads the NALC to the conclusion that our weak labor laws provide much more room to undercut the wages and benefits of postal workers in the US than exists overseas.''
So if you really want to see the market economy at its best forget about striking!
A real market economy means driving down wages till the worker refuses to work for it.
What the least you will work for? The min wage?

why don't we ship out all the strike breakers who have crossed the picket line to work for the American postal system - they'll be right at home :) Surface Mail in an unventilated box would probably be suitable packaging lol.
