I must agree the union have not been clear to the membership on what they want? or even asked the membership if they are happy with the current 3 year deal that is on the table now

Still seems to be a lot of staff either undecided about going on strike or even if the strike is worthwhile at the moment given what's on offer.
The worst case scenario would be a limited response to the strike, leading to RM management (whoever they may now be) thinking that the CWU's power and influence is waning, and also leading to more "waverers" refusing to strike next time, as "few did last time and I won't be caught again".
Then again, RM management, possibly heartened by the Grangemouth fiasco, may think that this is the time to show who's the boss.
So yet again, the CWU have been wrong-footed by RM.

I think CWU has lost the initiative now, they have allowed Royal Mail time to out flank them and I am not sure we have the public support. What has happened at Grangemouth must be music to Moyas ears and I don't see a much better deal coming to the table. The Royal Mail propaganda machine has had time to influence the waverers and the public or was that the plan all along mr ward and Hayes ?

The company accepted our offer for fresh talks and these began on Wednesday 23rd October.

In commencing these talks the company also agreed that the previously rejected offer was off the table and they confirmed that they would make a new improved offer on the key aspects of the dispute.

Doesn't look very "beat" to me.

The one day strike is just the start.
After it, I fully expect that the CWU will give RM a week, maybe two for further talks.
During which time, I believe they will announce a second ballot for boycotting etc.
And announce further rolling strikes with a start date, and continuing indefinitely.

why are some people so negative. The stakes are high. What the union is asking for and seeking through negotations no other union has achieved. What we are fighting for on terms and conditions with no outsourcing , no franchising. , no two tier workforce and the protection of all our terms and conditions including such things as our current annual leave entitlements , seniority , shift payments , reserved rights payments are massive and remember the more Royal Mail give on these the less profits Royal Mail and the new shareholders will make as basically 70 percent of all costs are our terms and conditions.

On pay we are still awaiting a new improved offer which Royal Mail have already said they will present? They did offer a new pay offer a couple of weeks ago and then withdrew it when the CWU said they would reject it. Now the fact is without the ballot there would be no new offer.

Royal Mail have changes their pension proposals , and offered improvements to the defined contributions scheme which people after 2008 are in. There is still a way to go on pensions including the legal binding guarantees.

On work place issues talks are still going on.

In terms of the strike , the result was good , yes there will be a few areas where there will be going into work but the majority will support the strike. Royal mails Christmas pressure period starts from the 4th November. It is the same day when most regional managers have said they will not being put in revisons from this date till after Christmas.

This is a fight which is too important to start arguing about what day we should strike on. RDCs and VOCs and outward parts of Mail centres are heavy on Monday.
