Take a look at what's happening at Grangemouth refinery. The workforce locked out until they agree to a cut in wages, pensions, terms and conditions. That will be us next

It is not just about how much one can afford... It can be about whether one actually want to lose any money whatsoever when we are already happy with the deal as it is.

All we here is macho stuff about being spineless and not understanding what is going on. Some of us are intelligent enough to make our own mind without hysterics or emotional outburst.

If you want to strike then do so, but people should not think that just because there is a strike they have carte blanche to intimidate and to try and wind people up.

I cannot believe how desperate some people are here that they think they should go and try and intimidate and shame casual staff into not turning up on strike days. OMG.

A casual staff that does not turn up to work usually gets a strike and not turning up on a strike day will be an automatic 'goodbye'. And this coming from someone who has a job, is FT, can do as much OT as he/she wants and has job security and even a decent pay rise and pension.

Some people do not know when they have a good thing. We are about to find out...

I am looking forward to the strike and the eventual capitulation that will surely follow.

They better deal or face serious consequences from RM, Govt and members.

My office is probably 50/50 and we do not have a rep. What exactly does it take to picket? Why picket anyway - stay home!

If CWU were serious about a strike we would be out next week not two weeks time. 5 year deal done I fear.

Assuming a deal will be made eventually, the back-dated pay increase should help lessen the impact of wages lost during industrial action.

Me.....if I believe in what the CWU are doing(and I do)....and they are my union.....I am prepared to go long haul if they so wish....regardless of the cost...that is just me...but words are easier than actions I suppose...but I was involved in a strike in the late 80's that went on for weeks...yes it was hard(and I didn't have kids then).....but I believed (like I do now).....my union was doing the right thing....oh and in the end we got what we wanted...better pay, less hours, more travelling money to jobs, better dig rates....it was worth the effort, but like I said it was hard....but the support of my workmates and family got me through.

Anyone in this job over 20 years plus must realise by now situations like this come round every few years. The only problem this time for our union and members, is that this is the last chance saloon for negotiating any sort of long term deal for our terms and conditions. Were now in the private sector and in the years to come any deals will be placed beside what the competitors are paying their staff. If anyone reading this ( potential strike breakers included) ever wondered what the hell the CWU ever done for them and their T&C's inquire what are TNT and DHL competitors paying their unfortunate staff. It beggars belief the difference in terms. Had a chat over a few pints with a guy and girl that work for TNT delivery in west London. They are probably been shafted in every possible way under their so called T&Cs, not just their silly pay scale but sick pay, leave entitlements, maternity &paternity and meal breaks did not have the heart to explain how hard done by they were.
I would like to finish by Thanking all my Colleagues past and present, where ever you are, who had the belief and bottle down the years, to make a stand and take the short term hit in their pay, so that now we can honestly say we have the best T&Cs in Our industry. From now on folks its going to be a race to the bottom.
