I am almost certain someone mentioned VR somewhere but maybe not as a direct result of being privatised...dvbuk55 wrote: I'm surprised nobody has mentioned voluntary redundancy. Now how many older people would consider taking a golden handshake? That's probably not an immediate prospect but bearing in mind not all of our work is subject to the USO and that provides scope for shedding staff. There are probably many methods which are totally unnecessary and will be shed. Royal Mail have stated that there will be protection for "the core staff" but no mention of how many core staff will remain.
* I did mention it at work - and I will take it - in a heart beat. And I am not that old and have not worked for that long.
** I also guess that there might be a stampede for Voluntary redundancy for long-term staff and it will also be sweetened with being able to take your shares.

1. Your threat to not represent certain CWU members would put you in breach of your duties as a rep.halfull wrote: sounds like you are one of the ones crossing the picket line, go have an afternoon nap!
That is why I asked if you were standing down.
2. If you have people in your DO saying the union is useless etc, why is what they say carrying any weight?
Why aren't your members listening to you?
You and your rep need to have a good hard look at what you have been doing.
3. Education is, in my opinion, the foundation stone of the trade union movement.
If you don't have the counter arguments, if you can't educate your members, then what are you doing?
If that make me sound like I am one of those who will be crossing the picket line to your ears, perhaps you need to readjust your hearing aid.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: worrying numbers looking to work on strike day
I'm well aware of what privatisation will bring ft, with or without the union, it happened to me once before though I was one of the lucky ones. The ESI was regional then sold off and what followed is legend. Services reduced and eliminated altogether, amalgamation of offices, closures, outsourcing, price increases and all that will be coming to an office near you. It will take time but it's pretty much a sure fire thing. I consider myself to be fortunate I was paid off for one and on this one I'm too old to be overly concerned. I don't think that any of the outdoor services, underground and overhead cabling, meter fixing/reading et al are in house anymore they are all outsourced or franchised to self employed people.fishtank wrote:It's not hourly pay that will drop if Royal Mail get their way,it's earnings.dvbuk55 wrote:I'm not entirely sure where this idea that there will be a sudden drop in pay to minimum wage.
Casuals will be the norm especially in processing, overtime will dry up,part-timers will be hit hardest.
We've already seen indoor hours culled and part-timers reduced to more or less delivery only, expect much more of this.
I would expect some kind of push towards pay simplification, reducing or removing the many supplements in RM.
MTSF and Pay Protection is very expensive and must be a target
No sick pay for the first three days is almost certain to make some kind of appearance at some point.
Labour costs will have to be reduced dv and although the threat of tearing up our contracts and re-employing us on vastly inferior contracts is unlikely at the moment it's worth thinking about. It's a nuclear option but i'm sure it has been discussed at boardroom level if only as part of a wish list.
We wouldn't be the first...or the last.
I have been saying for a long time small offices days are numbered and that is an early attack I would imagine.

If anyone goes in to work in our office I'll take a mental note who they are and never acknowledge their existence again

who's more the fool, the fool , or the fool that follows the fool ?

All sounds very plausible to me ft. What will we be realistically looking for in a long term agreement that will stop/delay any of it?fishtank wrote:It's not hourly pay that will drop if Royal Mail get their way,it's earnings.dvbuk55 wrote:I'm not entirely sure where this idea that there will be a sudden drop in pay to minimum wage.

1,i couldn't care less if im in breach as they do not deserve a repclashcityrocker wrote:1. Your threat to not represent certain CWU members would put you in breach of your duties as a rep.halfull wrote: sounds like you are one of the ones crossing the picket line, go have an afternoon nap!

2,are you a rep? if not be quiet as you have no clue as to the unpaid stress it brings.
3,the people saying that in my office mean the union on a national level, ie the bt2010 deal, how long its taken to get to this point.
4,me and my rep have canvassed & worked damm hard the last few weeks trying to educate everyone on all the issues involved in this depute but many already have their eye on the 300quid & are scared to lose a days pay. Many are just gaffers bootlickers & dont want to lose their place in the pecking order.
5,your comment about us not going on min wage or taking a big pay drop was the single handed dumbest thing ive read on here in over 2 years! What the hell do you think the cwu are fighting for a longterm deal for? for the fun of it? lol, your right sunshine education is the most important part & lets all hope you are not the one doing the educating in your office.

Re: worrying numbers looking to work on strike day
I would imagine there are dumber things been posted on here and you posted it - but I stick by my statement - where does it say or even been intimated by either RM or the CWU that you will be paid minimum wage? Nothing is going to change in the near future and any change would be negotiated but if you're dumb enough to think your wage slip is going to take a sudden nose dive to minimum wagehalfull wrote:dvbuk55 wrote:clashcityrocker wrote:Where have I said that?halfull wrote:

Attention to detail isn't one of your strong points then?
