what bothers me is the bribe! its very needed for my family... and so adds a huge morale dilemna. how is it right that they can do what they are doing?
Catch there is often more to life than a few extra quid in your pocket. That's even if its legal to give the money, which I doubt.

Think of the longer game.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

The biggest risk to you at the moment will be if we cannot get a long term commitment to no franchising in delivery, protections to existing agreements and a commitment to no compulsory redundancies.
Forget about privatisation, pensions and pay,for you personally you need the CWU to reach an agreement over protection because your job along with mine could be decimated by a part-time franchised delivery model.
In order to pressure the employer into giving us those protections we may need to strike.
Nothing is free in life unfortunately.

Only two things can happen with the £300.
Either we'll all get it as part of an agreed settlement or none of us will get it.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

you will be a zero hour contract in 3 years if royal mail get what they want and that £300 you so need will be long spent and you will have sold your soul for £300, but as the majority on here says each to their own! Just hope if new deal is improved you hand back what little extra we will get as your already happy with what you have got!

Do you have car insurance, house insurance, life insurance, private health car insurance, any insurance?

Have they ever taken the money for nothing, because you haven't made a claim?

The Union is a form of insurance, you pay in for years while the going is good, then when you need it, it's there just like magic!

Your money is used to help others in need, when your turn comes (you work for RM therefore it will) others will be paying for you.

catch22 wrote:What exaclty do you expect to get from royal mail?

I've been in the buisness for 2 years.
someone tell me why i should strike...? when i dont agree with it, and cant afford it.

Since i've worked for royal mail i've had several pay increases- the wage is fantastic. i do not have an issue. I'm not bullied, i LOVE my work. If my job changes... its already happened. we're already privatised.

why should i strike?
I joined the union for help and advice, i never got it.
And since you all want to call me a scab- I'll stop paying to be a member. Your majority will be a minority. And then where are you...? skint and small.

my money has been lining CWU pockets... for nothing. What exactly have they done for me, other than put me in a bracket which now allows my opinions to lead to me being harrassed and bullied...! WHERE HAS FREEDOM OF SPEECH GONE...?

I'm not living in the past like most of you. And i wouldnt know any different... I've only been here for 2 years. How many other people are there, out there... just like me... totally clueless and just wanting to do whats right... and why would they turn down that sort of money on a temp contract!!?

I'm very interested to know- how you can persuade me to change my mind... or do you enjoy picking fights with strike breakers?
Ive posted a similar thing here, the users on here don't realise that they have it really good and that the world is going to pot.

They think the public will support them striking, but all I saw from the teacher strike was 'what a bunch of greedy pussy's'

Expect the same when RM strike.

Whilst I know this £300 is part of a rejected proposal (and thus NOT an agreement), I really must ask why the CWU do not tell RM to stop offering one-off lump sums, every time a new pay deal is being negotiated.
If RM have the money available to fund 115,000 x £300, let's insist that money is put in wages as a percentage increase, so we get it EVERY year FFS !!!

Catch 22 as your time progresses working for royal mail you will gradually understand why we have to stand up for ourselves even if that comes to strike action it seems to be the only way that management will change there position, they will pat you on your back for a couple of days for working through a strike then forget you, your colleagues will never forget.B

As i was told when i first started om RM.
You are only as good as your last bit of docket. I.E RM look on you as a commodity, not an asset.
They will pat you on the back, so long as you are of use to them.
So get yourself in the union asap. Iv'e been on the end of their tricks, and if it wasn't for the union, i wouldn't still be in the job.

If You are currently happy with the pay, terms and conditions that You have then You owe thanks to all the union members that have fought over the years to keep it like that for You.

You answered it yourself in another post..
my job search.. included care homes and stacking shelves all at minimum wage. Even with a degree, managerial experience, years of customer service, this was the ONLY job i could find and i was so greatful when i got it....
cannot live on minimum wage.
This is unskilled labour yet it pays more than some jobs you need a degree for.
We have mostly substantive contracts and are still predominantly a full-time company,we have paid sick leave and framework to deal with surplus employees that's better than anything out there,we have a commitment to no compulsory redundancies and an ill health agreement that let's you leave with almost a full year's pay.

Are you willing to bet all that on the kindness of our employer and risk going back to looking for minimum wage jobs...can you afford to?
Mind you ; even with a degree , managerial experience and years of customer service and this being the only job you have got. You cannot spell 'greatful' correctly.

In no way am I putting you down. I would not wish to do such.

But, one thing you can learn from here and many other forums is that if you are going to have a 'pop' then get it right.

And btw , I have made many mistakes on this and other forums....

As I see it, if you're in the union and you have any honour whatsoever, then you strike, irrespective of your personal views on what is right and wrong. I don't agree with the strike - neither the timing nor the reasons for it resonate with me, but I shall not be crossing a picket line. Just as I have never crossed a picket line at work when it's been teachers/whatever. You can't have your cake and eat it, either you're all in the union or you're all out. If you're somewhere in-between, you're a selfish bastard.

Catch.....we are all in the same boat....I have kids, mortgage, ever increasing fuel bills, two kids at Uni to support, and a few debts which might land me in court..... :Boo hoo! yes I am in a ruck....BUT......no matter what I would never cross a picket line and go against a Union (who far from perfect)....have provided me with a half decent job(when gaffers leave me alone)...backed me up whenever I have had problems both at work and personal.... :Boo hoo! and what about my workmates standing on the picket line who I have worked for over 20 years and who will still be there when Moira has flew back home(1st class of course) with millions of pounds in her pockets through your blood, sweat and tears....solidarity is the key word here....if we do not make a stand now then like so many have said it will be a race to the bottom....the CWU are trying to preserve the working conditions, pay, and job security for the future.....NOW......the CWU are there 24/7 waiting for RM top dogs to come to the table and strike a deal....If there is no talking....then Nov 4th I shall be walking.
