Arthritis from long walks

As the walks are now so long, a colleague of mine has developed osteoarthritis and this is going to lead to two hip replacements..... Question is, can a claim be made against Royal Mail for this??

As they are only a couple of miles further I would be surprised there is a causal effect. Good luck at proving it. So, no chance.

(I got osteoarthritis a couple of years after starting the job and have had it for years, hip replacements, etc. Unknown reason.)

The shorter walks obviously had an affect too. But now walks are hitting around 10/12 mile per day, it's becoming ridiculous to say the least, 60 plus miles wear on your legs each week is serious miles. Over 15 years that's 46000 miles plus.... Now think of what problems arise in a car after them kind of miles.

Not really under the old system.

Bearing in mind we had at least one postie collapse and die in the heat this year. However under the private sector things can be different so you never know if someone can make a claim stick.

well i ended up getting 2 knees replaced so i put a claim in. but simpson millar (union solicitors) said i had no chance. i would have to be able to prove it was the job that caused it. the surgeon said osteoarthritis is wear and tear. imo the job exacerbates wear and tear. so i got it long before i should have. but it seems that if a case of this nature is proven against rm, then this would open the floodgates against them, costing them millions. i was under the impression that simpson millar was on royal mails side. or seemed to be. i am a conspiracy theorist so its in my nature to believe daft things like that. surely rm wouldnt be giving simpson millar ''backhanders'' to keep these cases from coming to fruition.!!! . who said that.

I don't understand why this isn't being seriously challenged.
Surely, nobody in their right mind would recommend walking 50-60 miles a week, EVERY WEEK?
I'm no medical expert, but even my common sense tells me that walking that many miles, that many times, cannot be conducive to good health.

10 to 12 miles a day walks? Yeah right no need to exaggerate, that would take 3-4 hours to walk let alone deliver mail to the doors? How many doors do you deliver to on your mamouth walk?

We have used sat nav ours is 12 miles and not the biggest in the office,other use pedometers but not as accurate.

So six miles each then? That sounds about right, but your not both walking 12 miles,

Also 2100 calls something iffy there a frame would need 9 wings to accommodate that. Yours figures just don't add up

So six miles each then? That sounds about right, but your not both walking 12 miles,

My frame has 864 calls, my van share partner has 1173 calls, his has a corner frame with 6 wings, mine has 5.... 10/12 mile per day each without fail

Both knees bad now and body in bits trying to get up in morning ,,,oh to have a normal ,healthy body. Wish I left a long long time ago knowing how my body would be now .

1. You would have to prove that working for RM caused your injuries. Any old sport injuries, any old childhood accidents etc would probably invalidate your claim.
Undoubtedly the job exacerbates any problems but it isn't the cause.

2. You need to throw away all your phone apps, gps, pedometers and all the rest of that crap. They don't work.
Thinking you walk 12 miles a day at 8mph isn't doing you any favours.
Unless you actually understand what your body is doing each day, you won't be able to look after it properly.
