THE grieving wife of Robbie Hopkins, a well known and respected Cirencester postman, has paid tribute to her husband who died suddenly last week.

Robbie Hopkins, 43, who spent several years getting to know the people of Cirencester on his rounds, tragically died on Sunday, October 6 following a sudden blockage to his heart.

The father-of-two, who would have celebrated his 44th birthday today (Thursday), was said to have been a friend to many and would even run into his Cirencester pals when travelling the globe.

His wife of 15 years, Becky said: “He just knew everyone. We couldn’t even go on holiday abroad without him knowing someone. It was starting to become a bit of an ongoing joke between us all.”

Becky, who had known Robbie since the age of 11, said: “He had such a zest for life. He was always laughing and always smiling and he had such a passion for his family.”

Robbie, a lifelong Liverpool fan, played football for Bibury and Cirencester Town during the 1990s and was also a former youth player with the Cirencester Cricket Club.

Since Robbie’s death the Hopkins family have been inundated with support and kind messages from members of the local community, having received over 1,000 Facebook messages of condolence.

“We haven’t got any wall space left in our house because of all the cards we’ve received. We’ve had so many messages of support which has been just a massive comfort to us,” said Becky.

A funeral service for Robbie will take place at Watermoor Church on Wednesday, October 23 at 1pm with a wake being held at the Cirencester Football Club from 2pm onwards.
