Without the union's influence we would be open to the whims of people who's main aim is to fill their pockets quickly and get out, ie Leighton and Crozier!

The top management showed their real commitment to Royal Mail when they all stuffed their snouts into the shares trough. I thought the flotation was about raising private cash all I have seen is a free for all from financial institutions who have already made millions!
The last IA brought about an agreement lasting 3 years which saw closures of MCs and a structured strategy to modernise.
This management team was not bothered to address the workers concerns this year because they wanted to see how well off they would be in the near future.
A deal needs to be struck which ensures that Mora and her team don't sell jobs down the river for a quick return for all those financial institutions. She has already hinted that prices WILL rise, no suprise there then!
In the end who would you trust to look after your pay and working conditions? Those who try to get you the best deal they can or those who see you as a cost!
Dave Ward was threatening strike on a range of issues in March. My favourite was when he said we want a new way of management and union working together and if we don't get it we'll ballot for a strike. So much for a new way of working.

To be honest I don't know what you're on about regarding the IPO. Tha management bought shares - so what? Plenty of posties did the same. And some of those "financial institutions" you talk about are pension funds and investment providers that benefit the likes of you and me.

You may have failed to notice that the pensions schemes so beloved of the likes of you are constantly telling us they are not viable!
You also missed the point! :arrrghhh You said "constantly". March was 1 month away from April so do the bloody math.
Royal Mail did not bother before that's why Dave was threatening a ballot.
And yes it should bother you that senior management would rather fill their boots than sort out industrial relations! :d'oh!

Well am I right in thinking that this was supposed to be tied into the last agreement along with all the other agreements which was supposed to be adhered to eg - 75% full time - 25% part time

....and which way would that be... :hmmmm

Good question but somehow it needs to be done.
Why would there be a constant threat of strike action?
Strike action is always a reaction to something, sometimes it can be an overreaction but there is always a root cause and it's usually enforced, unagreed change, management's failure to follow agreed procedure, unwarranted suspensions/dismissals or generally heavy handed management.
The simplest way to move the company forward without the threat of strike action is to basically get your own house in order first, the man-management skill set of your average line manager or even Dom in Royal Mail is pathetically inadequate.

I've been on joint training courses with many and their lack of knowledge in basic agreed procedures or even employment law is embarrassing.I've worked with 5 different DSM/Area Managers and how they got to that position within the company baffles me.

Every single manager I've met uses exactly the same problem solving technique, wait until s**t happens and then deal with it and if anyone senior asks it was an OPG performance issue.
Move the company forward...what with...a giant management shaped anchor? :cuppa

If that's what posties call bullying and harassment no wonder there are so many complaints.

Quite a touchy response. I don't think I allocated any blame about the cause of strikes did I? I just said that management and unions have to find a way to move the business forward without the constant (and don't take it literally!) threat of strikes.
