The strike date won't be officially confirmed until October 28th so I wouldn't worry about things too much until then. I wouldn't be too surprised if they brought the date of your induction forward though

I don't think its legal for them to use casuals during industrial action (may be wrong) even if they did call me I would not go in.

It will be very interesting to see if any Angard staff who turn down shifts on 4th get called again for any work afterwards and that means NO Christmas work. They have the power to do it and I wouldn't put it passed them.

It's illegal during a strike to replace existing workers with new casual staff. It's not illegal to continue to use existing casual staff that are already working for the company. This could end up being a bit of a grey area

I believe that the law on this is The Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses Regulations 2003 regulation 7 - see http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2003 ... tents/made
Restriction on providing work-seekers in industrial disputes

7. (1) Subject to paragraph (2) an employment business shall not introduce or supply a work-seeker to a hirer to perform—

(a)the duties normally performed by a worker who is taking part in a strike or other industrial action (“the first worker”), or

(b)the duties normally performed by any other worker employed by the hirer and who is assigned by the hirer to perform the duties normally performed by the first worker,

unless in either case the employment business does not know, and has no reasonable grounds for knowing, that the first worker is taking part in a strike or other industrial action.

(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply if, in relation to the first worker, the strike or other industrial action in question is an unofficial strike or other unofficial industrial action for the purposes of section 237 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992(1).
which seems to restrict employment businesses rather than employers ("hirers"). Unless there is other relevant legislation then it appears that RM could directly recruit new staff but couldn't use agencies etc to supply new staff
