So would you rather a fellow worker be sacrificed to the managers rather than the Trade Union stepping up and doing what it should do, i.e - protecting the workers.
Have a little forgiveness in your heart.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

he wasnt a scab then just a strike breaker, strike breakers are only union workers who cross a picket line, not non union members who do so they are simply strike breakers

If I refused to accept that view and went on strike then I would be breaking the law by taking unlawful industrial action. The same respect should be given by the no voters. Anyone who strike breakers and takes the 300 pound blood money should have their right to vote removed, if you are not going to accept the result then why should you be allowed to have your say.
so a question for you:
in your opinion should strike breakers be kicked out of the union then?
Yes deffo
so assuming a 5% scab rate that would be an awful lot of members the CWU would lose, less subscriptions coming in, less representation in the work place so less of an influence if we keep kicking them out, best thing to do is educate them, next time they might think twice before crossing that line

Zx135, Thanks . I didn't realize there was a difference

Yes but that would be difficult to achieve don't you think. How could you re educate someone who crossed the line ZX135
Unfortunately its illegal to expel strike breakers from the Union.
Unjustifiable discipline
There are certain actions that your trade union must not discipline you for. If it does, the discipline will automatically be unjustifiable and you will be able to make a complaint to an industrial tribunal. The actions are outlined below.
Strikes and other industrial action
A trade union must not discipline you for:
going to work despite a call to take strike or other industrial action
crossing a picket line during a strike
failing to take part in or support a strike or other industrial action
showing opposition to, or lack of support for a strike or other industrial action (for example, voting against industrial action)
refusing to contribute funds to support a strike or workers taking strike action
refusing to break an obligation imposed by your contract of employment or other agreement with your employer for any purpose connected with a strike or other industrial action
encouraging or assisting someone else to honour their employment contract or other agreement with their employer

by giving repeated good and accurate information, sticking to your principles and always looking out for the interest of the unions members, not saying it would happen overnight but showing people there is a better way through good actions will convince people over time (yes there are the few who will never listen but you have to keep trying)
our rep went to a union meeting yesterday he said we will still get £300 at end of year if we strike or not they have taken the threat of loosing it out of the discussions.

Ok ask to see it in writing with her signature under it then they have a claim.

sort of right but not quite
there is no £300, there was a suggestion of a £300 payment for a non strike clause in an potential agreement from royal mail, but that agreement did not come to fruitiion and does not exist, it may come in a new agreement but at the moment there is nothing on the table
Moya tried to use this mythical £300 payout to create divisions in the ranks, but her tactics were shown to be legally unsound so if the £300 had been real and if she had tried to pay it to solely strike breakers rm would have been taken to court
This has been an interesting read, I can understand both sides of views, however, if a union member does not agree with whatever the strike is for, they should not be made to stand out on a picket line just because the majority of the vote was yes.
a few staff members were discussing this, we agree the threat of a strike was called for but to aid a renegotiation of contracts, however, if no change comes from negotiation before hand, there seems little point to us standing out on a line if royal mail will sooner a strike goes ahead then negotiate, seems as though we will be on a losing battle? also what is to stop moyo deciding to scrap the 3 year deal and legally change out contracts giving us the legal minimal notice of time?

You would make a very poor poker player.
If you fold every time someone calls you all that happens is you go home skint.

if they dont negotiate before the strike, why would they do it after if the damage of a strike has been done?
The choice of a strike on a Monday seems poor for our area as all the part time workers dont work anyway as they have mon/tues off every week, spit really doesn't effect them. We were also told that the strike would be at Xmas which would effect the buisness at its busiest time, November is hardly Xmas!
