By the way two of my post offices have told customers not to bring ppi and then ended up getting a phone call from customer services telling them they had to accept it!

Re: PPI mail getting out of hand !!!!!
The post office can only refuse it if there is no docket or if they can not store it safely & securely

The offices in question Phil are sub post offices and are built into shops and the ppi mail in question takes up far too much room in these offices and actually causes in some cases a fire hazzard blocking doorways etc

Re: PPI mail getting out of hand !!!!!
Leaving bags of mail on the floor in the shop is an H&S issue. Not to mention the possibility of being sued for injuries caused to customers.
If, and in the OP's case it is, there is an exceptional amount of mail, then the collection should be tested and either extra time to complete it put in, or relief collections put in place so not all the mail is there for one person to pick up. Inform the manager, keep the Rep informed, and let them deal with it. If they don't, take it above their heads. You shouldn't be the one having to put up with this. Don't.
PO's should be REFUSING any PPI mail that they do not SEE a docket for, and you are allowed to RED X this mail anyway, so the argument that a customer wouldn't want a free collection to avoid having their items checked for payment is irrelevant. Any and all PPI mailings can be checked by Revenue Protection at any time, whether by their request, or from the drivers own initiative. Drivers should also, when collecting PPI mail, check for a docket, especially from PO's, and if there isn't one, it should be RED X'd immediately, as should any PPI mailings from ANY customer (whether dropped at PO or collected from their own premises - any whether or not they pay for/get a free collection is irrelevant) that the driver deems may be underpaid. You should do a quick visual check, guess the number of items you pick up, and compare it to those listed on the docket sheet handed to you.
If you go to a customer and they have no docket, the mail should be refused.

You can also get in touch with your local Revenue Protection unit to let them know about this customer. It could be someone they know about already but then again it might not be.
Whoever does the surcharges in your DO should have a contact name/phone number/email at your local RP (because they have to send RP weekly returns about surcharges and customs charges). If you can get some details from the docket or mail - e.g. account number (it's towards the top-right corner of the docket) or PPI licence number from the items then that will help RP to track down the customer more quickly.
Finally, if mail looks incorrect and you're going to red X it to RP, it always helps to write something on the back of one of the red X labels - something as simple as "no docket", "too many items" etc

The amount of customers is irrelevant revenue protection will deal with it. Keep red crossing it2791dean wrote:Well said red robber my thoughts exactly, and add for the person who said earlier to red cross it is not just one company but several some don't even put details on the tags! So red crossing it off your own back won't win any prizes either it needs to be pulled at source and checked !

Bogstandard I understand the red Cross system but on the final wave when you're hitting the mail center at the busiest time of day (not to mention busiest time of year approaching!) We don't always have the time available to red cross this stiff, as mentioned earlier our dom isn't fourth coming with paying any kind of overtime and I not about to start giving my time for free anymore!
The main reason I mentioned the ppi problem is that coming up to xmas the busiest time of the year there is going to be less space to fit all this in! Even if it comes with a docket! And don't mention relief collection help as we had none last year! Well when I say none they put a relief collection driver on two days before xmas! Do royal mail not realise after all these years that xmas pressure really starts about two weeks before Xmas!

Re: PPI mail getting out of hand !!!!!
When we collect from a firm the PDA asks what type of mail we're collecting. If we say PPI we're asked if they are giving us the relevant documents, if we say no we are instructed NOT to collect the mail.
We are not in a position to refuse mail from counters as we only scan the POL bar code, we're not asked what type of mail we are collecting, unlike when collecting from a firm.
I'm sorry but i don't understand how you have time to put the mail in a york with a red x label on it

Re: PPI mail getting out of hand !!!!!
doesnt make any difference whether collection or not, if collection you check the mail, if at counter then the counter checks the mail so makes no difference where it comes from it is being checked2791dean wrote:Been through Dom with this, transport manager and all day they have the right to do so, dockets either in yellow pouch hanging from one of the sacks or given to pay office counter staff to hand to us.
There needs to be a better system for this as it is open to abuse on many levels, maybe ppi contracts shouldn't be given without a collection being given? ?
