Re: Biased CWU
Its because the Labour party ( and by extention, the CWU ) knows that if Scotland became independent, the Labour party has not got enough support within England to ever get back into power. They could never get enough MP's in Westminster to form a goverment. The Tory's know that if Scotland became independent, the oil revenue would follow and that would affect their ability to keep taxes in England low, thus affecting their support & votes. Hence the NO camp of Tory + Lab.
And who cares what the Lib-Dems think.

Scottish MPs have NEVER turned what would have been a Conservative government into a Labour one, or indeed vice versa.
- on only TWO occasions, the most recent of them being 38 years ago, (1964 and the second of the two 1974 elections), have Scottish MPs given Labour a majority they wouldn’t have had from England/Wales/NI alone. The majorities in question were incredibly fragile ones of four and three MPs respectively – the 1964 Labour government lasted barely 18 months, and the 1974 one had to be propped up by the Lib-Lab Pact through 1977-78 so in practice barely qualified as a majority. Without Scottish MPs but with Liberal support, Wilson would have had a majority of 12.
- and on ONE occasion (2010) the presence of Scottish MPs has deprived the Conservatives of an outright majority, although the Conservatives ended up in control of the government anyway in coalition with the Lib Dems.
- which means that for 62 of the last 67 years, Scottish MPs as an entity have had no practical influence over the composition of the UK government. From a high of 72 MPs in 1983, Scotland’s representation will by 2015 have decreased to 52, substantially reducing any future possibility of affecting a change.

Re: Biased CWU
Scotland deserves better. This union we find ourselves in is not an equal one. For me, and many like me, the proposition is really quite a simple one: that the people who live in Scotland are the best people to take decisions for the country of Scotland. We can only achieve this by becoming (again) an independent sovereign nation.

Not really,to be honest if you're pro-independence you're not really going to lose any sleep over which party the rest of the UK is lumbered with.Cut Off King wrote:Ooooh a raw nerve touched

If i might respond. The issue of Scottish independence is a matter for no one else but the people who live and work north or the border. There should be no corporate, political, or organizational interference unless it it from the people of Scotland themselves. Who are we to say they are not grown up enough to run their own affairs? Has the English Parliament done any better. There has to be a better way, and i am talking as an Englishman, not Scottish

thanks for your rational response mate it is almost becoming a crime to regard yourself to be a Scots man or a English man .... Independence is not about Scotland V England and vice versa it is about how we are governed and about whether we send young men to fight in America's wars in far flung lands that don't concern us ... I want us to be good neighbours instead of a whining, disgruntled partner like we are now as a people we are very much anti nuclear be it weapons and energy

Re: Biased CWU
You could use the same argument about the EU and the UK, we should be free of their interference - there is a split argument on whether Scotland would need to re-apply to join - this could be a blessing in disguise for the Scots.gluteus maximus wrote:If i might respond. I don't know what the general populace of England think of Scottish Independence but I would imagine they are quite unmoved by it, I mean what effect would it have on Joe Public in general. I can't imagine how I would be inconvenienced unless I'd need a passport, which I don't have.

Or indeed Torquay where they speak a completely different dialect.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
