sadly I lost my father in law today,just a quick question,if his funeral falls on my day off ,what are my options,could I change my day off to the day after the funeral etc.

you can get 3 days off or if you are organizing the funeral its a week

Sorry for you mate you should have compassionate leave but my uncle passed away recently had to take it unpaid but you may get on better with your managers than me.

sorry to hear that but best you can hope for is 3 days paid leave if you or making funeral arrangements don't expect anymore unless you take it unpaid special leave.

If arranging a funeral up to one week with pay, which includes the bereavement, arranging the funeral and any other duties (This is for arranging funerals of next of kin or as an executor).
For the death of next of kin and blood relative, (spouse, civil partner, long standing unmarried relationship, child, parent, sibling) up to one week with pay (No additional week is allowed if the person is arranging the funeral).
For a more distant relative e.g. parent in law, grandparent, aunt, uncle- one day with pay.
Discretion for additional time off in exceptional circumstances where care of a dependant is involved, however where prolonged time off is required this might be without pay or from holiday entitlement.

if going to funeral only you will have to take a day of your own leave sorry again but that's how rm treat us all.

thanks for all of you responding im not to bad its my wife she is in bits to be honest,and she needs my support bigtime,good old royal mail they are so careing .will see my dom in the morning if it is just the 1 day off ive got for the funeral,i will be finshing on time all week that is for certain.

I myself lost my father in law a couple of months ago.

I received a days paid leave for the funeral, you are entitled to this and this only I am afraid.

luckily I had a very understanding DOM, I got 3 days paid leave + a week's unpaid as the wife was having a bad time of it all and I ended up sorting most of the arrangements.

if you need unpaid special leave then ask for it, only a real B@stard of a DOM would refuse you it.

When my mum died my DOM said 7 days in total as making arrangements and sorting out her council property, I took 4 or 5. Can't fault them if it is immediate family personally, aunts, uncles, even friends they are not so conciderate unfortunately.

I would go to your DR and tell him you are suffering from depression and he should sign you off sick

Then again, having a diagnosis of depression on your medical records might come back to haunt you one day.
