have the Georoute speeds changed?

I only ask the question as the waling speed in our revision (to be implemented in Jan) is set at 4.22 mph.

Now i could be wrong (and often am) ; but I thought that walking pace had been reduced to under 4 mph?

Is their a latest or revised definition of all of the parameters?

Did a live test today on delivery via gps and mapping app on my iPhone, absolutely smashed my delivery I successfully knocked 14 mins off my time set last Saturday when doing my round to the book.. My average speed was 3.3mph today. There is no way a office revision can be set at 4mph or over.. It will fail from day one!
Btw our office 2010 revision is still about 6 months away, we are still working the old way

There are various walking speeds depending on what equipment you are using and what terrain you are on

For flat walking 5.95km 3.69mph( it used to be 6.44 )4mph

With an HCT 5.53 3.43mph

With a light weight trolley 5.59 3.47mph

Moving a cycle between delivery ponts 5.95 3.69mph

For HCT undulating 4.90 3.04mph
For HCT steep 5.19 3.22mph

Cycle 13.24 8.22mph

light weight trolley undualting 5.72 3.55mph
Light weight trolley steep 5.76 3.57mph

There will be some live testing taken on some of these but most of the speeds have been reduced and are now in geo route 2008 version.

Ivan, which app on your iphone are you are using? How accurate did you find it?

Although I can't explain why just yet, I can certainly tell you that none of these apps give you an accurate (or indeed sensible) account of your daily mileage or average speed.

Some years back I considered purchasing a Garmin Forerunner to test various walks in the office. He was a keen cross-country runner and he said the watch was useless for that because in woods there would be no signal.
He said the same would certainly be true of blocks of flats and probably for garden paths.

The idea that you have, out on delivery, averaged 3.3mph is ridiculous. Most people would struggle to maintain that pace for 4 hours without the constant stopping that a delivery necessarily entails.
You then get people who think they can walk a mile in 8 minutes. Actually stopping and thinking might be more useful.

3.3mph was only for delivering 1 bag of mail..
There's no way a postie can maintain over 3mph over a full delivery. The only reason I did the live test was to know the result for myself.

Not 100% sure on the accuracy, been using this app for a few years now for bike rides, dog walks etc, been recording maps from my delivery for a few weeks now seem fairly accurate for distance/time ..

You forgot to add the following into the equation:

Speed / Length of legs = stride < running < x Age x Duration of round - temperature either side of optimal, (18c) / weight of bag x beer consumed previous evening / D2D.

Or to put it more simply, we are all different and can't be expected to adhere to a set speed.

It is obvious that these figures are incorrect, you cannot be expected to go faster with a LWT over undulating or steep ground than you would over flat ground.

maybe they think you will push it hard up the hills and let it runaway on the downhills with you running after it
