Re: The impact of independence on Scottish postal services
I think the only branch in Scotland that actually has a policy of supporting independence is Scotland No 2.
Other branches may be pro-independence but Scotland No 2 actually voted for and endorsed the policy at the AGM.
Glasgow Amal I would imagine would be an entirely different kettle of fish since the West Coast has its own particular brand of politics driven by a mixture of faux Unionist loyalties and equally faux Irish Nationalist antipathy towards Westminster.
It's all fun and games in Weegieland.

Re: The impact of independence on Scottish postal services
Is one of our Scottish cousins seriously suggesting they re-nationalise royal mail north of the boarder as well as have it's own defence forces and it own national health service all this from just 5.3 million people! Are some of your parliamentarians on drugs or are they going to wage war against their neighbours to afford all this remember you can promise the world delivering it is another matter.

What like Finland - population 5.4 million and 10 times larger in land, and it hasn't privatised its Postal Provider either (Itella). Its has a Publically funded health system, Finland has the highest number of people satisfied with their hospital care system in the EU: 88% of Finnish respondents were satisfied compared with the EU average of 41.3%, incidentally their Income tax rate for our bracket is 6.5% or 17.5% - vat is high though at 24%.k979aaa wrote:Is one of our Scottish cousins seriously suggesting they re-nationalise royal mail north of the boarder as well as have it's own defence forces and it own national health service all this from just 5.3 million people! No, worse than that. They wrap themselves in self-serving nationalism and promise unfulfillable and unrealistic aims to appeal to the flag-wavers in an attempt to gain political power for themselves. You'd think most Scots would see through it in a heartbeat..k979aaa wrote:! Are some of your parliamentarians on drugs

and the UK parties don't wrap themselves in the union jack? Note Millibands One Nation and incorporating the flag in conference graphics. The Tories? UKIP? all play the flag waving game, I don't believe any countries economy is crash proof and the difference between the Nordic countries and the UK is they stick some dough away to soften the blow of the inevitable next crash- though even that has its limitations.Tman wrote:No, worse than that. Not to the same level or in the same context, they don't. Any Westminster politician attempting the equivalent of the "Scots wa hae" tartan-clutching, "poo'er wee Scoorrrtland" petty and confused nationalism of the SNP would be rightly ridiculed to resignation.and the UK parties don't wrap themselves in the union jack?
Seems to get a positive reaction North of the Border though..

Psssst..... The NHS in Scotland was created as an administratively separate organisation in 1948 under the ministerial oversight of the Scottish Office, before being politically devolved in 1999.k979aaa wrote:Is one of our Scottish cousins seriously suggesting they re-nationalise royal mail north of the boarder as well as have it's own defence forces and it own national health service all this from just 5.3 million people! There are people of Scottish descent in many countries other than Scotland. Emigration, influenced by factors such as the Highland and Lowland Clearances, Scottish participation in the British Empire, and latterly industrial decline and unemployment, resulted in Scottish people being found throughout the world. Large populations of Scottish people settled the new-world lands of North and South America, Australia and New Zealand. There is a Scottish presence at a particularly high level in Canada, which has the second largest population of descended Scots ancestry, after the United States. They took with them their Scottish languages and culture.
"Deported back!" That'll be a laugh. I'll be saying let's build a couple more cities. We don't want the Tories. The bitter together campaign doesn't appear to offer Social Justice. It offers a lullaby sung by Maggie Thatcher with the old Status-Quo as the resulting nightmare. If there was a Labour Movement within the Union, perhaps I'd be persuaded to stay, but they were sold out by Blair.

Re: The impact of independence on Scottish postal services
Although the recent Grangemouth announcement that it (ie just one industrial complex!) provides 10% of Scottish GDP highlighted that the future Scottish economy is precarious at best, and too vulnerable to external factors (such as the Ineos "owner" getting stroppy again).
