It's not really exercise, you need to do some proper exercise to lose the weight.
Wrong, the best way to lose weight is to be careful about what you eat,eat simple unprocessed foods, cut sugar out completely, avoid anything that says low fat on it and drink lots of water, and ditch fruit juice and any tinned fruit you can get more vitamins from broccoli than you can fruit.
I think age also plays a big part in this.
As you reach middle age your metabolism changes and as testosterone levels drop fat replaces muscle.
My diet is, and always has been very good and I drink very little alcohol.
If I want to lose weight I have to do serious amounts of physical activity and being out on delivery doesn't make any difference.
Of the 4 hours on delivery I probably stand still for half of it and the other 2 hours I walk at about 2mph.
Calories burnt off - negligible.
I see your point, but it is still possible to put muscle on later on in life, age does play a part as you say but the mind plays a bigger part, people convince themselves that they should stop strenuous exercise as they get older for fear of doing themselves harm, there is an Indian guy still doing the London marathon at some fantastic age, diet is the most important thing if you have a bad diet you would probably get away with it when you are younger but like you say as you get older it tends to do you more harm,I eat very few carbs and mostly protein have you heard of paleo clashcityrocker?,before you knock it which I presume you will as being another fad either try it for a month or do some research on it,have a look at some books by Gary Taube I thing his name is,I find this stuff fascinating but you might not each to their own.

Got to agree with you DB11OO..This job has become like, a low intensity endurance sport.I had to look at my diet for energy and weight loss .Discovered the Paelo lifestyle/eating about 8 months ago,Gave up cereal, pasta, cakes, biscuits, juice and no wheat (basically sugars). And slowly and gradually switched my main energy source to fat and protein with some natural carbs, Bacon ,eggs, lots of veg some fruit ,organic cheese, organic butter, goose fat and, sweet potatoes dark choclate etc.

Dropped 2 trouser sizes. joints no longer ache as much and most importantly. I'm way calmer dealing with a "hysterical line manager" (processed carbs make you agitated). This guy's website done it for me http://www.marksdailyapple.com/category ... summaries/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Along with this guy's podcast http://robbwolf.com/podcast/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Give it a try,if your finding this job to difficult.(still don't think I'll last another 10 years)... Don't think of what your cutting out, think of what you can eat...Must dash, as I'm drinking some double full fat cream, yummy.

Because if you walk the streets for 4 hours every day, your body becomes used to that level of physical activity and you don't burn the calories off in the same way someone with a sedentary lifestyle would when they start to be physically active.
I reckon I burn off 0 calories each day out on delivery.

(I'm sure there are people out there with pedometers that would challenge that statement and I'm sure their devices are telling them they are burning off approx. 1 000 calories each day on delivery.)
4 hours walking consumes zero energy?
So says a manager light blue touch paper stand back

Became a Postie a year ago. Prior to that worked nights at Tesco filling shelves for eight months. Bullying. whip-cracking managers, unpaid breaks and back breaking work. Believe me, this is a piece of piss.

Do you see the question mark? It's not me who is saying that you can do a 4 hour delivery without burning any calories.

It is a lie too say any exercise would not burn energy no mater how often or little you did it! It is consumption of that energy and the expending of that energy that counts some people consume too much and others expend too much! What side do you fall into?

Whenever I go in Tesco at 6a.m. on my way to work the shelf stackers don't look under any pressure at all, just as many are stood around chatting as those actually shelf stacking, it certainly doesn't look as hectic and full-on as typical D.O. indoor work... and then we also have to spend 4-5 hours slogging the streets as well.

Oh I definitely consume too much and exercise too little but as I said you're preaching to the wrong person as I believe it's plain stupid to say you can do a 4 hour delivery without burning any calories.

Stupid I feel is a little harsh.

If I was using any significant amount of calories would there not be a discernible difference in my weight at the start and finish of my duty?
As there is if I go out running on Sunday morning.
Incidentally I recently had my pulse and blood pressure checked by a doctor. He was concerned his machine wasn't working because they were so low.
My pulse rate doesn't increase while I am out on delivery and my blood pressure only if my PDA malfunctions or I see a manager doing outdoor observations.

Christmas is coming
The postman's getting fat
Please put a penny in your manager's hat
If you haven't got a penny
A ha'penny will do
And if you haven't got a ha'penny
The deal was probably brokered by the CWU

Sorry.
