Find out if there's a tumble drier in the office.

This is more likely at a larger office and a god send if you walk through the door soaking wet at the start or finish of your duty.

Obviously a spare shirt and trousers in your locker will be a big help while you do this.
(I have seem people with just a grey sack to keep warm/ preserve their modesty while their clothes dry though)

If your office isn't on park and loop , get your second bags ready first.

That makes it a lot easier for drivers to take them out, if not you could be waiting ages for them to turn up

Also if you do get them sent out, be sure to write down where you're supposed to pick them up.

Always endorse mail that you cant deliver

EG no access, dog loose, gone away, etc.

BEFORE you return to the office.

People have been disciplined for failing to do so and sacked for wilful delay of the mail

Late nights and early mornings dont mix.

It's simple, but I've seen a lot 18 year old new starters think that they party all night, just get an hour's sleep and then do a shift delivering mail.

Usually they quit before the end of a week

If possible make separate bundles that follow on from each other and end/begin with the same number.

Eg 1 church st and 1 Acadia ave.

This should help cut down misdeliveries.

Best advice you can get really, especially on a complex route, just make a new bundle for each street so you can follow it along and know where to go next if you don't know it too well

Buy some decent headphones, even if you don't plug them into anything. People ignore you if you have them in

Depends on the type of gloves you wear.

You can get them over here as well but I used this website as you can get a good look at them close up. When it gets a "tad" colder I sometimes wear a pair of fingerless gloves over the top as the neoprene is ok but you can feel the cold at times. Thin enough to handle the mail and also keep your hands warm/dry.

I'm struggling with my time on the round. I'm always last one out and obviously last one back. This is my second week... they have me on the shittest trolley round in the office according to others. Needless to say it takes ages, I've done it twice on my own now, first time went over by 1 hour 30 so booked it as overtime. Then the following day doing it the manager comes up and says "Well I don't usually give over-time to people so it sets you the pace you have to complete it by". WTF outrageous... I'm still booking it no matter what.

Anyway my question is.... what do you guys do to cut time whilst out on the round? Is it ok to walk over a garden to get to the next house? Does anyone give much of a damn how far you've pushed the mail through the letter box?
