Will you work 'till 4pm, 5pm, extended delivery?

Hi, as the later start times are being forced in this Wednesday - it also means later finishing times too!

So, consider this - How will you feel if you have to ALSO do regular extended delivery and will not be completing your round until 4pm, or maybe 5pm? with corresponding LATER finishes on a Saturday too?

I feel we have been backed into a corner.

I don't know what to expect.

I DO fully support the Union - it's the ONLY lifeline we have left!

If you extend then you will be paid overtime (if you wan't it)
if you don't wan't to extend then don't just work to your time
simple in't it

as for your question i won't be working till 4-5pm
no way no how no chance

We already have 2 postmen who are regularly still out on delivery circa 4pm!! With these later starts being forced on us this week rumour has it they will require torches to complete their duties during the winter months and have to record Corrie!!
Joking apart, the later Sat finish has caused uproar in our Midlands based office with lots of concerned season ticket holders of Premier, Championship, and Conference teams frantically hoping that kick off remains at 3pm and is not suddenly switched to 1pm or earlier!!!!
I for one will be informing my line manager that i intend to work to my time on every saturday attendance...... Tell them before you leave, because if its anything like our office, they won't be f*****g there when you crawl back in the office after midday!! KEEP THE FAITH

I'll be doing my job properly and finishing on time every day, they can stuff any OT.

Earlier finish every tuesday as it is a quieter day

Just cut off when your duty time finishes.

When they bring in the swipe cards just make sure you do not return to the office and clock out until your time on the light days.Then they won't be able to make you work until 4.00 on the heavy days.

I do not see a problem with the new flexible working,if we use our common sense they will not be able to make it work anyway and the beauty is you will not have to rely on the idiots as long as you come in on time take your breaks and work until time on the light Tuesday's you will not be punished on the heavy days by being made to work until 4.00

Job and finish was never going to work anyway as it plays too much into the bosses hands.I am paid to work from 6.15 - 2.30 and that is what I will work and no more.

I worked in a supermarket before and the staff would only work to time and no more and the productivity was appalling with staff stringing the work out over as much time as possible and getting very little done and any work left over the managers would have to stay behind and complete,so if that is what Royal Mail want that is what they are going to get,they are just spiteful and can't bear the thought of a few people knocking of a couple of hours early once a week.

Thanks for your comments. Working to your time sounds like a good idea, but I fear there is likely to be INCREASED bullying, persuasion, and psychological blackmail from the managers who will be more desperate than ever to get the mail shifted!!! And in some ways you can't blame the managers entirely because even THEY are getting pressured from above.

Could anyone lend us a BIG MUMMY to make everything alright? (remember when you were a little child - Mummy always made things better)

They cant cover the work now let alone when flexibility comes in...

All this means is you make sure do 8 hours a day and no more (string the work out by following the guidlines in the walklog) and no one will be finishing early just to do OT...

The management are shooting themselves in the foot on this one me thinks as all the docket bashers will no longer be doing OT. Loads of work and duties wont go out.

Im a rep I will be informing my colleagues to return to the office before dusk I will not be having people delivering after dark in Hove, the amount of steps and basements mean that health and safety will be severely compromised, also there is the risk of attack to public workers on sink estates in Hangleton, no way will people be bullied into working in the dark on my watch.

Hopefully it wont come to this and we can reverse/halt what these fascists want to impose

In a lot of ways you can blame the managers, pushing through job cuts and introducing more part time staff, im sure he has enjoyed his massive bonus, now he can work for it

of course productivity will fall, its a fact that we are actually overworked now, most of us go into work and work like the clappers to finish maybe an hour early on a good day.
Now, what happens when the job and finish motivation is taken away ? the workforce WILL work a lot slower to a more normal pace, what this is means is on the heavy days where in the past people would have rushed around to make 30-40 mins, now those duties will actually fail. That work will come back to the office and RM will have to pay MORE to get it done.
People wont use their cars as it would be pointless to a postman to make an expense to himself. That means more vans more expense to Royal Mail, driver duties now not having time to deliver packets and dropping off bags instead RM have to pay more again to get those packets delivered.
Also I know in our office a lot of us will do some extra sorting to get up to date so we can start bundling up our walks and not have a ton of missorts to go through when we are out on delivery. Are people going to do that when they know they have to finish on time ? Are they f*** !!

Theres a well known saying which sums up what Royal Mail have done -

If most offices are like mine then the office will be cleared mostly due to the goodwill of the work force, they have lost that big style in our office :cfo
