A Rothesay man has admitted stealing more than 1,600 items of mail over a three-year period in the course of his work with the Royal Mail.
At Rothesay Sheriff Court on Monday, a letter from Martin Kane’s solicitors was produced entering a plea of guilty to the theft of 1,656 Door to Doors at the Royal Mail’s Rothesay delivery office, Kane’s home address and elsewhere in Rothesay between June 1, 2010 and June 26, 2013.
The letter also entered a plea of guilty to a charge that between February 1, 2010 and June 26, 2013, Kane opened 21 Door to Doors without reasonable excuse in the course of his duty as a postal operator.
Sheriff Thomas McCartney deferred sentence on 32-year-old Kane, whose address was given as Flat A, 77 Montague Street, Rothesay, pending the production of a criminal justice social work report.
* Solicitor Derek Robertson entered a guilty plea on Monday on behalf of 80-year-old Robert Stanley Ferguson, admitting that Ferguson was the owner of a dangerously out-of-control English bull terrier which bit a local postal worker on the leg.
The incident occurred in the garden of Ferguson’s home at Gubrath, Castle Street, Port Bannatyne on Wednesday, June 5.
Fiscal depute Lindy Scaife told the court that after the incident Ferguson had said of the dog “it’s a wee b*****d when it gets out”, but Mr Robertson said his client denied using those words.
Sheriff McCartney decided to defer sentence on Ferguson, and the dog, until a ‘proof in mitigation’ hearing, to be held next month.

"Postal Packets" is legal jargon for anything we deliver.
Quite often when it seems as if someone has stolen lots of packets, what they have done is shab a few sets of D2D.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Someone at ours just got sentenced for two and half years. Doesn't seem to have made the local news though so can't give a link yet. Six months of it was for hoarding D2Ds

Laziness.
Both.
Who knows why people do these things? But they do.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
